I've been having this issue for quite sometime. I have 2 networks at home, 1 I use for the hall, and the other is a homeplug i use for my room which has a direct connection to the wall socket.

Things I've tried:
1. Checked with starhub whether it was my connection and they say it isn't. They say my router is working perfectly fine too. I can connect to the hall wifi without a problem, but once i switch over to the Aztech homeplug wifi it gives the me error "Wifi has a self assigned IP address and will not connect to the internet."
2. Tried plugging it directing into the Ethernet on my macbook pro, did not work.
3. Tried replacing the homeplug with a new one and it still does not work.
3. Deleted my networks and readded them from Keychain, does not work.
4. Deleted my firewall from the system prefs as mentioned in a forum earlier, didn't work.
5. Renewed the DHCP address, still nothing.
6. Lastly, i've tried to create a new location for my network settings, but the aztech connection still does not work!

I've searched a lot over forums but can't seen to find a solution. Im using a Macbook Pro OSX Mavericks 10.9.4. I simply and stumped on solutions.

So if anyone has any solution, please let me know! I will be very grateful!

Could simply be the home plug network not working - did you check that it is set up correctly?

I've encountered issues with home plugs not connecting to each other on different floors, only to find that each floor had its own circuit breaker box - which breaks the connection and hence the network.

The thing is, i've had these homeplugs for about 8 months now, and they've been working perfectly fine. It just so happens that one day I come home, and I get this issue. I've had it before but it was resolved before when I restarted my router, or deleted the network and added it back. But now, after trying everything I could think of, It seems to be a permanent problem! It refuses to connect again! I've even tried replacing the homeplugs with new ones, but I still get the self assigned IP address issue.

Sounds like it too. My friend burnt through 3 exchanges of the Homeplug until the warranty expired, before eventually deciding to instead pay to run a LAN cable and install an AP on level 3.

I have this problem too occasionally. I go home and i find that i can't connect to the internet.
I use homeplugs too, just not your brand but i used to have them.

Try rebooting your starhub modem and router. If that does not work, reset your homeplugs.
Sometimes when one press the button too long to pair it, it will create a private network. Just reset it and re-pair.

OK sooooo, it works now. but with the most weirdest solution. After trying so much, all i did this time was plug out the home plug that was connected to the router, waited a few minutes, plugged it back in, and then suddenly, IT WORKS!

my god, i hate the IT randomness. -_-

Thanks for everyone's input. Hopefully this issue doesn't come up again.

Heh. Good to know. Yes, like I said earlier - check if the home plug network is working. ;)

It is an entirely separate network from your LAN network.

That would be one of the first few troubleshooting steps I would have done after confirming no issues with ISP modem.

When in doubt, powercycle the device.... :s22:
