Drove in Kyushu - rented from Kumamoto for 3 days to get around Mt Aso, Kurokawa and Takachiho.

Rented from Eki rental - operated by the JR company. Yes the insurance is pretty standard, not much choices there. I suggest you can look for better travel insurance here that covers driving accidents.

One thing about eki rental is that it charges by hours. It turned out to be cheaper for me to use them because of my rental period.

Booked through Tocoo! in the end. Wondering if it is worth it to buy the Additional support coverage by Tocoo. It seems to cover the NOC and Deductible components as well. The Japanese car rental companies only have a standard plan option at most. No option to buy anything that is totally covered with no out of pocket additional penalty in the event an accident.
