Self study UOL law degree

Anyone know if i can sign up for self study for the UOL law degree? I heard that the first year, self study is not allow.

I wrote to the Uni but no reply from them yet.

Yes UOL is a distance learning degree. Registering with a tuition provider (SAA; 1 of the 2 tuition provider in SG) only provides you with extra help. This is actually not necessarily.

Where did you heard from? I rather you go read all the information from UOL website. Just google and you will get all the information rather then hearsay only.

I thought all UOL degrees can self-study? In any case, why take UOL law? For interest? You know that UOL law degree cannot be called to the bar right?

no such thing as 1st year cannot self-study. just apply then every year around may go take exam at the venue.

UOL Law degree can be self studied for the entire duration, same as all other UOL degrees.

The "...first year, self study is not allow", I believe you are talking about UOL Law Diploma - equivalent to UOL Law Degree Year 1.
So yes, UOL Law Diploma must be studied through a recognised institution.
The only "affiliate centre" in S'pore that teaches the law diploma is ITC School of Laws.

I am sure you are aware that UOL Law degrees are not approved degrees for S'pore Bar.
The most likely law-related career you can get out of UOL Law degrees is probably, Para-legals in law firms or Case Managers in State Court/Supreme Court.

I was thinking if i can skip the institution for the diploma in law it will be cheaper.

I have no intention of practicing law actually but i would to be involved in other legal services, I have been in the legal industry all these while so I thought of upgrading myself.

How strong is your experience? Have you consider asking your company for sponsorship? Perhaps they might sponsor you for a full time law degree at NUS or SMU.
Else you may consider the alternative, Temasek Poly's part-time Diploma in Legal Executive Studies. A 2.5 years polytechnic diploma.

2. TP's law diploma is a good start IMO, you can also continue on with a law degree after that from NUS/SMU if you qualify.

3. I believe the relevant ministries are thinking about dropping the unisim Law idea. It was proposed a few years ago when there was deemed a shortage of lawyers, it was supposed to start in 2014, but looks like its not going to happen.

Now, there is actually an oversupply of lawyers. Yes, things do change that quickly. From what I hear, its getting harder for our Singaporean UK/Austrlia law grads to find a decent pupilage and a job in those countries. Combine that with the initiatives made to woo all the Singaporeans studying overseas to return, it seems we have a sudden influx of Singaporean graduates returning to work after their studies.

Yeah, I agree with you that TP's Law diploma is a good start for TS.
Hopefully, the UniSIM law school will still open as planned, though there is no official word of when it will open. I guess it takes time to study and formulate a niche curriculum.

You can try the below institution. They have been teaching the UOL LLB and LLM programmes for the last 2 decades.

I have never studied TMC's UOL law, but according to UOL, only ITC school of laws is an affiliate centre, the rest are just registered centre.
So I suppose ITC's teaching quality is better base on the status given to them.

Yes. I did mine with ITC more than a decade ago.

They have experienced teachers and their notes, especially the revision pack, help a lot.

They leveraged their support from Kemayan ATC, another educational institution based in Kuala Lumpur, which has been teaching UOL law programmes since the 80s and 90s and produced several first class honours law graduates over the years.

Go to the second hand bookstores at Bras Basah Complex and you can find some of these study texts.

As law is continuously developing, please check these texts before purchasing to ensure that they are not outdated.
