Hi all, I intend to build a semi-new gaming rig, recycling some of my existing components from my current rig. Would appreciate some kind inputs from the knowledgeable hw gurus here. :)

I won't be doing any 4K gaming (besides toying around with nvidia's Dynamic Scale Resolution), as my pc is hooked up to a 1080p plasma display. I know some of you may think it's a bit overkill for 1080p gaming, but I intend this rig to be quite future-proof, in the hopes that future games still run well 3 yrs down the road at 1080p.

Here's what I have in mind:

New Components
Mobo: ASUS Z97 Maximus VII Hero
CPU: i7-4790K
RAM: 16GB G.Skill Ripjaws 2133mhz
PSU: Seasonic X850w Modular
GPU: Zotac GTX 980Ti (May be adding a 2nd 980Ti for SLI once it's cheaper)

Recycled Components
Casing: Coolermaster HAF932 Advanced Full Tower Chassis
CPU Cooler: Coolermaster Hyper 212+ (considering the Corsair Hydro H100i)
SSD: Samsung 840 Evo 512GB + Crucial M4 256GB
HDD: Samsung 1TB 32MB Cache SATA II
DVD Drive:: Samsung SH-*‐S222A 22X SATA DVD Rewriter Drive

I don't really care about the aesthetics, just the performance for my buck, so please feel free to comment on my build.

Thanks in advance! :)

Other than graphics card no point changing all others as yet until Skylake arrives...

Might as well go for the Intel Core i7-5775C or wait for Skylake at this point.
No need to change the PSU since your current one already has the required PCI-E connectors even if you SLi
Might want to get the Radeon Fury X at the same price as the GTX 980Ti as it looks like it's going to be faster and cooler.

Thanks for both your inputs MoneyFace and Fatfool.

Seems like I should wait for Skylake. However, there is no fixed date and I could end up waiting till November. Still weighing my options...

@Fatfool: Hmm don't you think 750w is a tad little to power the new components (and the possible 2nd 980Ti later on)? Am not keen on AMD GPUs as well, has had extremely negative experience with their drivers, more an nvidia diehard now.

You should generally only SLI it if it is beyond your current card's limitation. Like SLI 980Ti/Titan X for 4K gaming.

New games generally come with crappy, non optimized SLI profiles or not supported at all. And for 1080p gaming a single 980Ti is already "futureproof" enough.

Thanks for the advice. That's what I'm planning to do, will probably only be getting the second 980Ti a year or more down the road when the price drops significantly as well, and only when I need the extra power.

Actually I will also be using nvidia's DSR which enables "pseudo"? 4k gaming resolutions beyond 1080p. Understand it's not the same as true 4k, but then again when I try it in games such as GTA V and Witcher 3, there is definitely much improved visual fidelity..makes me wonder how is it different from true 4k?
