Happened to my father funeral too. Giant moth flew to our flat 5th level. Done some research, some of the guys stated that it might be the ingredients or smell of the inscent sticks that attracted the big moths. But my hse has only minmal lighted inscent sticks...........

Visit frequently is not an issue. I used to go to the temple, where my ancestors' tablet is placed, for chanting. Each time, I will go to the altar to pray and ask them to recite Namo Amituofo and attain rebirth in Western Pure Land. One of my close relative who passed away saw many late relatives before his passing but did not see those whom I dedicate merits to. I believe they have moved on to better realms.

If we visit often and request for them to come out to get the food we brought, will it make it harder for them to be less attached?

It's good to offer food but your prayer must be correct. I won't invite them, instead I'll say, I buy food for offerings to you, you must recite ' Namo Amituofo' and follow Amituofo to Western Pure Land. If I chaodu them, I will tell them the address and dates, invite them to join the chantings. Shifu said the food offerings will not go to waste even if they have move on. Other ancestors or lost spirits will benefit.

Temples have the most incense sticks but do not attract any moths.

i believe, since day 1 we moved here, never seen a moth, 11yrs... a month after my mom's passing, a moth appeared in our room, with aircon on some more

we left it alone as it rested near our bed, next morning it's gone.... can't be dead cos we looked on the floor, not there as well

Yes, each time I pray to them, I'll request them to recite 'Namo Amituofo' and attain rebirth in Western Pure Land. Address or the name of the temple where you chaodu them.
