Hi Gurus,

I have bought a server recently thats Xeon V2.
It is a used set and currently running on linux.

I have a normal home pc running on win xp.

I changes the harddisk cause i wants to have my home pc programs and files running in the xeon v2 server i bought.

But when i plug in the home pc harddisk, while running the windows scanning halfway it prompt to Bios Setup,
i believe i need to configure the bios to make the home pc harddisk run in this server system.

Please advise what is the right configuration for bios setup ?

i have remove the server harddisk with the home pc harddisk

Please advise

take note xp does not support 2TB or higher capacity hard drive.
you need UEFI CMOS BIOS for>2TB h/d

Two possibilities:

1. XP may have been installed on your client PC under SATA mode. And now your server board is set to boot with AHCI mode. Check your bios on both board. Make sure the Server is running in same mode as your client pc before booting from the XP boot drive.

2. The hard disk SATA/AHCI controller on the server needs a driver that is not installed in your XP. So it can't boot. Trying installing the server SATA/AHCI controller driver while XP is booted up in the client PC. If it installed fine, try booting it up on the server.

On second thought... any recent enough or recent enough linux distribution is 10 times more powerful than the cumbersome XP... why bother running XP on a server board??? Just stick with Linux.

1st M$ wants you to buy and pay for the new hardware.
You cannot simply plug out the hdd from your home pc and run it on your xeon server. It doesn't work like this.

2nd Do your homework
Check from the manufacturer site if the xeon server board support XP

Good if it support XP. Then you will need to perform a clean install.

Too bad if it doesn't. Then you are stuck with Linux or any OS that the motherboard support.
