Hello
I need some help here also.
I fell down from the apex ladder last year and broke 4 front teeth. I am still under going treatment, have not gotten my Service Injury card yet, temporary using the memo.
I would like to how long does the service injury card last? How do they determine how long it last?
My specialist at National dental center says 10 years later i might lose all the affected teeth....by then i may need to do implant, so how do i go about assuring that Mindef will pay few years down the road? Since it's under service injury....
But i duno if 10 years later what will happen...cos is like after effect of the injury[/QUOTE]
It should last forever till you die. How long it takes to process, well depends on how efficient they are but I wouldn't bet on it.
Your case a bit interesting, cause it's "cosmetic" but still it's "service injury". The service injury card is more for if you need to see doctor for free treatment and medicine. For medical appliances that's approved by your doctor, you need to send in the receipt for claims subject to approval. I am not exactly and interested to find out whether implant is consider a medical appliance or not but I got a feeling it will be. On your SI card, it will state the nature of of your injury, I believe you can see the doctor for free and subsequently if you need to have implant can claim it as medical appliances.
service injury you need to go and apply/request. it takes time so do it asap. how long and how much will be determine by mindef.
Not everybody who suffers from service injury gets permanent disability compensation. As mentioned you must be suffering from permanent disability to get the compensation. But you will at least get a service injury card I believe.
His case a bit interesting, cause not sure lost teeth count as "perm disability" or not. Cause if need implant which is actually consider cosmetic but he did indeed lose it during training, he may be able to claim for medical appliances but maybe not compensation.
