Hi all,

need to replace my q9550 / 5850 (see the side panel -->) set up with one that can handle bf4 (med setting is enough).

Only need recommendation for mobo (ASUS preferred), CPU and gfx. The rest to be factored into the $1k budget is casing, ram, PSU, and maybe HDD (no SSD required), which I am okay with any 'generic' ones.

p.s my current win7 is full version (SEA edition), so I will be transferring that. No OEM needed.

$1k budget

Asus entry level boards are crap.

MSI b85m g43 + i5-4570 ~ $356
Kingston value ram 8gb 1600mhz ~ $90
WD blue 1tb ~ $81
Palit gtx 760 2gb + fsp raider 550w ~ $399
Sharkoon ms140 ~ $52
Samsung ODD ~ $21

Total $999 buy at tradepac. Diy

Please stop playing games in mid settings for bf4. It isn't gonna bring you any fun and FYI mid range card do not score a proper fps for bf4 even in mid settings. Best is to get a high end card.

Would you term ASUS P5Q Pro as entry level (maybe 4 years ago)? So far, my experience with MSI (spoilt on the dot when warranty has expired) has been bad, and ASUS great. Not sure if it was because I had avoided the 'entry level' ones though. In the end, I am probably open to anything except MSI. ;)

ODD = optical drive, right? Probably don't need that one. Games now are either steam or origin, and gonna use a usb boot to install windows.

That as 4 years ago. At current Asus board you are paying more for branding. Their entry boards are more likely crap. Only their high end tier boards worth looking at.

Your mobo at that year was a mid high end mobo.

Right now most of the brands right now have shine out even be it their entry to high end. If you die die don't want MSI then can go for Asrock b85m pro 4. About the same price. And i will only recommend Asus to people whom have good budget and only to those high end users and wants to oc till the extreme.

Wait for BF4 to actually be out so that can see what specs work.

I remember the Diablo 3 hype that made people chiong for GTX 680.

Running on gtx760 now. It is playable at 60+ fps. So best is to keep the gpu section from 760 onwards.

For red camp will be 7950, 7970 or the R9 270X 280X. R9 270X more for 1080P.

Ok. So far seems to have established that gfx needs around nvidia 760 or ati79xx? My monitor is 24", so running at 1920x1200.

For CPU? What is the min to not bottleneck the gfx? Curiously, I couldn't find the 3350P nor the 4570 suggested, in the PC themes price list nor other price lists. Is there typo?

3350p is ivy bridge
4570 is hanswell

If u wan to play bf4 minimum is 3350p

It's a quadcore only without inbuilt gfx..performs slighly lesser then 4570..

Look at tradepac. I don't know why you cant see 4570.

3350p PC themes don't have. Only Tradepac.
