Hi all,

I will be going on a Shanghai +Hangzhou trip in late Nov this yr....

Any idea if which way is better :-
1. Land in Shanghai's Pudong Airport and 高铁to Hangzhou on 1st day and 高铁back to Shanghai ,tour shanghai and depart from Pudong Airport or:-

2.Land in an airport near Hangzhou, tour Hangzhou, sit高铁to Shanghai, tour Shanghai and depart from Shanghai Pudong Airport....

Either way works. Personally, I refrain from repeating, so my choice is to fly to Pudong and depart from Hangzhou. Hangzhou has direct flights and I regard Hangzhou as a better place for shopping.
Of course, the cost of the air fare is important, so make the comparison first, not forgetting to add the train fare.

I took SQ morning flight to Shanghai Pudong followed by coach (at the same airport) to Hangzhou. I reached Hangzhou at around 8pm or 9pm at night. There was no Scoot flight opened for booking to Hangzhou when I booked my SQ flight to Shanghai.

After that experience, I would choose to take direct Scoot evening flight to Hangzhou. Do note that if you land at Pudong, you still need to travel to Hongqiao to take HSR to Hangzhou, which is why I took coach at Pudong Airport.

Thks for the replies:)

I guess I checked for Hangzhou airport, there are no SQ flights to and fro there from Spore ,n my intention is to let my parents try SQ biz class for once haha;)

So no choice I will land at Shanghai Pudong airport ,take their 高铁 or 包车 to Hangzhou after landing and return either 高铁 or 包车 to Pudong n depart after touring Shanghai...

Very troublesome ,haha bt no choice if I want to let them experience SIA biz

I used Baidu map to get a quotation for 顺风车 from Shanghai Pudong Airport to Hangzhou East Station. For 拼坐 is about 150rmb+-, for 独享 is between 350 to 400rmb+-. The journey is about 2 hours plus. Seems very fast. I have not used Baidu map to book their private hire service before, so I am not sure about their safety and realiability. You can explore other platforms (online/offline) too.

The third option could be to land in Shanghai, stay for a few days, then go Hangzhou, followed by back to Shanghai. It was really tiring for me to travel from SG to Shanghai to Hangzhou on the same day. Better to take the tiring leg on the return trip rather than the 1st day.

If they know how tiring it would be, they would probably appreciate Scoot flight there and return by SQ.

By the way, Shanghai would suddenly 降温 followed by getting back to the temperature it is expected to be (based on past years) after that. Good to over prepare rather than get caught by surprise.

Can fly to Shanghai then from Pudong to Hangzhou via car and then back also. Both got their pro and cons. Shanghai is like city but has some nice places and chio bu. Hangzhou is cosy place. Can go to this nice lake performance. Really beautiful.

Shanghai is confirm the shopping heaven. I recall Hangzhou got this place where they sell a lot of China Lego. But in terms of items, can’t beat Shanghai la.

I don't see it this way. If you seek international brands, you won't be shopping in China in the first place. Hangzhou has the native products like handicrafts, green tea, embroidery and silk, and the tailors are likely more expensive in Shanghai than in Hangzhou. The market for “A” grade brand stuff is not what it used to be in Shanghai. Popular brands are the same, Shanghai or Hangzhou.
