U can try the xiaolongbao and shengjian dumplings.
生煎 there is a famous store but cant remember the name offhand.
Very tasty.

Also go to a local shanghainese restaurant.
But their food tends to be on the sweet side though.
The small fried fish and the sesame oil noodles are really good.

You're referring to 小杨生煎?

Yea 小杨。
佳佳 is also supposed to be good.

Off huaihai road, on the south side, there is also a noodle soup shop that is famous.
Ah niang or something like that.

佳佳 is 汤包 aka XLB. Different from 小杨. I like both :o

Hi, I'll be flying to Shanghai for the very first time alone for a business trip. Got to stay there for almost 3 weeks straight.

Anything I should take note of?

My mandarin is passable, but reading is not. I read here that there are signs in English, so hopefully can survive.

But no google map is gonna be a problem navigating.

I will be staying in Holiday Inn Shanghai Pudong Kangqiao. Is it easy to move to the city? I was told it is not the city.

Thanks for any valuable input!

Many non-Chinese foreigners can get by in Shanghai, so can you.
Get one of those apps for offline maps loaded on your mobile.
The good thing about your hotel is its proximity to the airport. It is far to the city's sights though. No metro nearby even.

My colleagues made me download the Tudou map app for navigation. Hope it will be useful.

So for me to go to the city from my hotel, the best way is by taxi? I read earlier parts that getting a taxi is very difficult, and have to use the Di Di Kuai Che Apps to book. I thought (in other countries, at least), there will be taxis waiting along the lobby of hotels. Or can I get the concierge to book a taxi for me?

Take taxi to the nearest metro then take metro. In most Chinese cities, taking metro is usually faster than taking the taxi.

There's a really nice Thai eatery near the Bund. I don't have the exact address though. It's in one of those small lanes.

To get to places in Pudong, a taxi will do. It gets tricky when you want to go to the other bank. You don't have a useful metro line near to your hotel.

You can also downloadd MapsWithMe.

Appears I'll be going to Shanghai for a week end of this month with some colleagues.

At least can prepare me for what to expect when I have to go there alone in November.

Means gotta settle a data sim fast.

I intend to get a data sim and then put it in my mifi device.

Is it feasible?

One quick question first, are the hotel tap water drinkable?

Yes if your stomach us strong, no if your stomach is weak. Bottled water is cheap and everywhere. The hotel will give two bottles of water foc daily.

Buy drinking water, as they are very cheap.

For Tap water , even if you boil it, it still contains heavy metals
