I think its ok if there are some millionaires who are willing to share information. Maybe wondrdoggie and Shiny Things have started a trend.

Money mind is learning about managing and growing your money. Better to learn how to make your first million from people who have actually done it vs people who claim to have "GUARANTEED WIN" investment strategies.

Regular living expenses for my household of 2 is about $5k a month which includes insurances, taxes, cars, food and entertainment. That's quite moderate I think. But I love to travel and live through the experiences with my loved ones. And I like to travel well, so I do spend a lot on that. That is my number one indulgence.

I also like to shower my loved ones with nice things. It makes me happy. Every year, I buy myself a nice watch. But if I have big ticket item coming up, I will forgo the watch.

Finally, I donate to charity. I donated enough last year to pay zero income taxes.

I am still far from elite. I am fortunate enough to have witnessed truly epic status. We are talking about individuals paying $50k and more a MONTH in income tax. Individuals who literally breath freedom because that is what having wealth buys them.

There is only so much you can cut back on. Focus on growing your income organically and via other means.

It's like running a business - to increase profit you either increase revenue, reduce expenses, or both.

Thank for the advise.

I'm living quite comfortably barring a GFC. Despite my low monthly expenses, I can ram it up as much as I wish to. My salary is for me to invest(spend), not to survive. In other words, I am about semi-retired. I can easily pick up odd jobs and still have $$ to invest without cutting back on my expenses.

Just curious.

Think thread starter can do a poll like

'how much is your monthly expenditure '
$500-$800
$801-$1100
$1101-$1500
$1501-$2000
$2001-$2500
$2501-$3500
$3501-$5000
$5001-$10000
$10k+

Just thinking that it think it is a good idea to have breakdown by categories (as shown by TS), instead of a lump sum figure, so people can see how much people are spending on things?

Looks like most don't have mortgages and car to pay for. Both can be a big chunk. Also noticed no one included rental, and I guess allowances to parents cover that if you are still staying with them.

I was thinking, actually even if you have a property or car that is fully paid up, you should also add depreciation and self-rental as expenses. If not, your expenses are unrealistically low.

I feel that for properties (especially their first purchase with HDB), almost everyone paid the mortgage repayment with their CPF contributions so that should be fine (I mean, nobody listed their CPF contributions here too).

But for other debts like cars, it would be worth listing them here.

Overshot fund is like...if suddenly friends want to eat better food or watch a movie etc, all these will burst my budget i set aside for food :vijayadmin: So need some standby in case such stuff happens.

For investments, I counted it as expenses as it is recurring and due to investment risky nature, i may not get back what i put in :s13:
