I’m trying to share one of my icloud calendars with an iPhone user. He has both icloud and gmail calendars. I have gone to my calendar app and added both his email accounts. Invitations allegedly sent but he didn’t receive.

Any according to one website if its an icloud email, don’t even need email invitation. Just add his iCloud account to my calendar & he will see right away. But he doesn’t.

Anyone know what’s wrong? Preferably i’d like him to have edit rights too but if not possible read only is fine.

Okay, so the user is trying to share an iCloud calendar with another iPhone user who has both iCloud and Gmail accounts. They added both emails in the Calendar app, sent invitations, but the other person didn't receive them. Also, they mentioned that if it's an iCloud email, the calendar should appear automatically without an invitation, but that's not happening. Let me figure out what's going wrong here.

First, I need to check the search results provided. Let me go through each webpage to find relevant solutions.

Webpage 1 talks about general iCloud calendar syncing issues. Fixes include resetting the iCloud account, updating software, checking date/time, manual syncing, registry edits on Windows, iCloud storage, port 443, and Apple's system status. Some of these might be relevant, like checking if the iCloud account is properly signed in and if the calendar is enabled in iCloud settings. 1

Webpage 2 is a user reporting not receiving calendar invites despite syncing working. They tried rebooting and relogging. The user is on iOS 14. The answer here might be related to server issues or settings. 2

Webpage 3 discusses a sharing issue where clicking the link leads to a spinning square. The solution here was using a different browser like Firefox instead of Safari. So maybe there's a browser issue when accepting invites. The user in this case had to use a non-Safari browser to accept the calendar. 3

Webpage 4 mentions invites stuck as pending. The problem here could be server-side or email delivery issues. Checking if the email addresses are correct and if the invites are actually sent. 4

Webpage 5 from Apple Support lists steps to check if Contacts, Calendars, or Reminders aren't syncing. Important points include checking system status, software updates, same Apple ID on all devices, enabling calendar sync in iCloud settings, correct date/time, and refreshing the calendar. Also, setting iCloud as the default account. 5

Webpage 6 is about shared calendar events not appearing even after acceptance. Suggested steps include checking if the calendar is selected and restarting the app. 6

Webpage 7 from Apple Support suggests checking if the sender's email is in their Contacts card, correct email addresses, internet connection, refreshing calendars, and account settings. If the user's email isn't listed in their Contacts, Calendar might not recognize them. 7

Webpage 8 reiterates steps from webpage 5, like checking system status, software updates, Apple ID, iCloud settings, date/time, refreshing, and default accounts. 8

Webpage 9 is a user having issues sending and receiving invites, stuck in pending. They use a Yahoo account for iCloud. The problem might be related to using a non-iCloud email as the primary. 9

Webpage 10 explains setting up how to send and receive invites, including choosing the right email address to send from and ensuring the receiving method (notifications vs. email). If the sender's email isn't properly configured in iCloud Calendar settings, invites might not go through. 11

Putting this together, the user might have several issues. First, the invitations might not be sent correctly if the sender's email isn't properly set up in iCloud settings (as per webpage 10). The recipient might not be receiving them because they're sent to the wrong email or stuck in spam. Also, if the recipient is using Safari, there's a known issue where the invite link doesn't work and requires a different browser (webpage 3). The user added both Gmail and iCloud emails, but maybe the recipient needs to check both accounts. Another point is ensuring that both users have the calendar enabled in their iCloud settings (webpage 5 and 8). Also, checking if the recipient's iCloud account has the calendar shared properly, maybe they need to accept via a different method or browser. Additionally, the sender should verify that their own contact card includes all email addresses used (webpage 7). If the sender is using a non-iCloud email as the primary, that could cause issues (webpage 9). There's also the possibility of server issues on Apple's side (webpage 1 and 5). Let's outline the possible steps the user can take.

#############

Based on the information provided and the search results, here are the key reasons why your iCloud calendar sharing might not be working and how to resolve them:

1. Verify iCloud Settings and Permissions
  • Check Calendar Sync in iCloud: Ensure both you and the recipient have iCloud Calendar enabled in your device settings. On iOS, go to Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud and toggle on "Calendars" 58.
  • Default Account Configuration: If the recipient uses multiple accounts (iCloud and Gmail), confirm that their iCloud calendar is set as the default in their Calendar app settings. Otherwise, shared events might not appear 58.

2. Browser Issues with Invitation Acceptance

  • Safari Compatibility Problems: A common issue occurs when the recipient tries to accept the invitation via Safari, which may display a blank spinning page. Workaround: Ask them to open the invitation link in Chrome or Firefox instead. This has resolved similar issues for others 3.
  • Check Spam/Junk Folders: If invitations were sent via email (e.g., to a Gmail address), ensure they aren’t filtered into the recipient’s spam folder 47.

3. Email Address Configuration

  • Sender’s Email in Contacts: Your email address must be listed in the recipient’s Contacts app with the exact address used to send the invitation. If not, Calendar may not recognize the invite 7.
  • Correct Sending Address: In your iCloud Calendar settings, confirm you’re sending invitations from the email address associated with your Apple ID. Go to Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud > iCloud Calendar > Send & Receive to verify this 11.

4. Shared Calendar Visibility

  • Recipient’s Calendar Selection: The recipient may need to manually enable the shared calendar. In their Calendar app, tap Calendars at the bottom and ensure the shared calendar is selected under "iCloud" 68.
  • Refresh Calendars: Both parties should pull down to refresh their calendar lists. Delays can occur due to sync intervals 58.

5. Server and Account Issues

  • Check Apple System Status: Ensure there are no ongoing outages with iCloud Calendar services 15.
  • Re-share via iCloud.com: Try sharing the calendar directly through iCloud.com instead of the iOS app. This bypasses potential device-specific glitches 9.
  • Sign Out and Back In: Both you and the recipient should sign out of iCloud, restart your devices, and sign back in to refresh the connection 15.

What You Might Have Done Wrong

  • Assuming Automatic Visibility: While iCloud-to-iCloud sharing should work instantly, it often requires manual acceptance or browser adjustments (e.g., avoiding Safari) 39.
  • Mixed Email Accounts: Adding both the recipient’s iCloud and Gmail accounts might have caused confusion. Ensure the invitation was sent to their iCloud email for direct sharing, and confirm they’re checking the correct account 711.

Next Steps

  1. Resend the Invitation via iCloud.com and ask the recipient to accept it using Chrome/Firefox.
  2. Verify Recipient’s iCloud Calendar Settings to ensure sync is enabled and the shared calendar is selected.
  3. Update Devices: Ensure both devices are running the latest iOS version 58.
If the issue persists, contact Apple Support for deeper diagnostics 8.

Thanks. Wow let me digest 😅 Have not tried DeepSeek but Chat GPT & Gemini weren’t too useful.
