Its's easy to visit MtFuji area from Shinjuku. And You may want to consider this pass:
Fuji Hakone Pass | Economical Excursion Tickets | Odakyu Electric Railway (7400 Yen round trip)

Good for staying one or 2 nights in Hakone/MtFuji area.

But if you have only one day and limited itinerary with sightseeing around Kawaguchi go, maybe the regular tix will be more cost efficient (2080 Yen one way).

Hi thanks for the information

Itinerary is limited to me as i only have 3 days at Tokyo and im staying around Shinjuku area

First time in Japan and after reading up place to visit i realise there is quite alot of shopping region too
Is it a good idea to shop in Japan ? Because i heard the stuff there are quite costly hence the reason i decided to include sightseeing in my Itinerary plan.

Their metro station map is kind of confusing to me may its because first timer:s22::s22:

Oh yes, the famous Tokyo railway spaghetti network map. take some time to orientate yourself in Shinjuku station, it's one of the most complex of all station. Do a bit of studying of the Shinjuku station map. It has multiple rail companies running through it.
Shinjuku Station - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia If all failed, just stick with JR Yamanote line. It's simple and easy to understand and cover lots of the popular sightseeing spots.

You have to ask yourself if you like nature or shopping. Mt Fuji is mostly sightseeing with Mt Fuji as the main attraction and a prominent backdrop. And when people say visit Mt Fuji, its usually means get really close to Mt Fuji but not yet Mt Fuji. :) If you really want to go up the mountain, there are buses to bring you there to one of their 5th stations. Nearby, there's this huge Gotemba outlet you can do your shopping too.

Shopping price wise, they are surprisingly competitive. That's my wife conclusion. It helped by the tax refund for big tickets items too.

With 3 days, unless you really crazy about Mt Fuji, you better spend your time wholly in Tokyo metropolitan area. Its a huge place with lots of interesting stuffs to see and do, not just shopping.

Haha yup trying to digest this "spaghetti" map but anyway i might change a little of my plan to maybe stay near mt fuji for 1 night to at least have some time to explore the surrounding region.

Also just a quick question , are people in Tokyo able to speak English i meant in terms of % so at least i have a general idea if i need any direction it will be easy

Remember to check weather forecast and only go to Mt fuji on a clear day. Best spot to view mt fuji is from thr north side of lake kawaguchiko. And when I was there, the road to the 5th station was closed due to icy road. The staff said probably only in May then open.

Abt Japan rail map, it's different from ours here in SG where all the rail network owned by government. At least in tokyo, there is the Tokyo metro, JR, and all the private companies like Keio, Toei, etc. It is relatively more expensive compared with SG, and transfer is not as easy in terms of the walking distance required and not as cheap as SG, esp if the lines are owned by diff companies.

Abt asking people direction, not sure abt that as I rely on my google maps. The staff at train station can explain to you well enuf if u need to ask which platform to go to.

Also highly recommend looking at the weather. If it is cloudy / rainy / foggy you should cancel the trip and even pay the cancellation fee.

I was on the trip on a cloudy / rainy day and it was an utter waste of time

Normally the Metro map will be a good help already. The usual questions I asked to the train staffs are usually exit points (the Guchi 口) to my sightseeing spots. It's leg work and time saver if you can get it right. Best is to note down the exits before you set off from the hotel. They can understand simple english, but some choose to reply in Japanese.:s13:

My advise: first trip with very limited time in tokyo, you need to plan and decide which place to visit. You need to factor in travelling time and frequncy of the public transport.
Go during weekday is recommended. Remember to book two ways coach tix if you decided to make a day trip to Mt Fuji.
Generally the staff in the station are very helpful. The Shinjuku station is the most complex one and easy to get lost. Usually to avoid lost in the underground pass, I will try to search on the ground,on the road to see the landmark,... I'm headin to tokyo to night

Speaking of google maps the phone Data service you purchase over at japan or is your own data. Is it hard to get a prepaid data service card and any idea with the price

Dont overplan though. Just some basic idea will do, I saw some folks planned right down to the minutes and activities like shower time also included, too restrictive and inflexible. :)

The good old paper map still works, so don't be too paranoid over the lack of data access in JP. Though you can get them easily like b-mobile or our in house jp expert, bro dimitri_can.

For me, I had mobile data access for a few days and balance of my days without(during last Dec), frankly, it was doable without it. I just screenshots my maps and details during the night before and a metro map in my hand, I can set off and without too much an issue. best part is Google map has offline mode now and works with your GPS, so some limited GPS guide is now possible on the street without any mobile data. The keyword is prepare in advance.

Mount Fuji weather in June

Sorry to hijack your thread.

I'm traveling to tokyo in June, anyone have any idea how's the weather there to see Mount Fuji? I know it will be rainy season then, if unable to see Mount Fuji then I wouldn't plan it into my itinerary.
