Tokyo station……………just buy the ordinary ticket is good enough………the shinkansen rides are comfortable………….

go to Tokyo station early because the station is really big and busy.

Depends where are you staying in Tokyo, you can board from Shinagawa or Tokyo station.

Get the JR pass if there's a return trip.

once in Tokyo go and reserve seats at the JR line ticket office. you can't reserve seats online. can only purchase.

Shinagawa and tokyo stations also have machines to buy Shinkansen tix, but quite complicated process
Buy from ticket offices better
