have you tried rakuten?
have you tried booking.com..it says it has 165 hotels there?

email the shirakawa-go tourism board directly , they can fix an accomodation for you.
i did that just 2 weeks before my trip and got a stay on a weekday at nodaniya.
Shirakawa have limited lodging available. Else you can check for gokayama (basically the other side of shirakawa, with basically the same cottages/views.
All else fail, maybe make it a day trip and stay over at takayama (last option).

Thanks marc, guess we will have to make do with Gokayama for this trip.
In this case, is it still advisable to get the Takayama-Hokuriku Area pass?
Will be going from Osaka to Kanazawa for a day, then from Kanazawa to Gokayama (for now) then to Nagoya.
Btw, how can I get to Gokayama from Kanazawa? (will be staying there for a day)
Thanks![]()

Not sure about the passes.
U can take the shinkansen from Kanazawa to Shin-takaoka (13mins according to hyperdia). From there can take the bus (1hr) to Ainokura.
Bus schedule to Gokayama :

PS: I never been there before (not even shirakawa). Most of wat i know is from my continual research on where to go for my next trip (dunno when can go)![]()
I stayed before in Gokayama. I recommend that place if you like peace and quiet. No neverending irritating tourists photo-bombing all your precious photos. However, transport is troublesome if you don't drive.
Try http://www.japaneseguesthouses.com? I booked one night this coming December.
Else try airbnb at takayama?

Tried japaneseguesthouse few months back, they ignored my emails lol.
Then, my gf request for availability, they told us to enquire again during July, which we did at 1st July, and he told us all fully booked..after that he told us again 28 dec - 5 jan closed
If all else fail, i think i will just either daytrip from Kanazawa since i've alr booked a hotel there, or visit Gokayama instead![]()
