Suspension

coil spring absorb any uneven road surface
Damper reduce coil spring oscillation

So you need new a pair of damper either hydraulic or gas type.
Coil spring reusable

cheers

When you do your regular servicing, have your mech check if your absorbers are leaking. If they are not, it could be that the bump stop(s) have "rotted" and broke apart.

I had a problem with sound from my fronts when going over humps and when I reach the bottom of slopes, but my workshop said the absorbers were not leaking. I changed to a full set of Bilsteins, but during the installation I saw the bump stops on the stock absorbers ... or rather what was left of them :(

I'm not sure if it is more cost-efficient to just change new absorbers stock-for-stock or have your workshop cut out new bump stops for your existing absorbers if they are not leaking though ... but I believe labour will be either same or close to in both cases.

Hope that helps.

For a cheaper option. Buy from local stockist and install in jb.what car is this? If your rear has control arms then it will be better to do alignment after installing the absorbers.if it is torsion beam then no need. If you need co tact for jb installer, pm me, they can install and do alignment as well.

Torsion beam no need alignment then. Just straight forward replace the old struts and that's it.

From my experience, i have changed alot of shocks, including air suspension. Usually damper can last a good few years. The top mount and the bum stop will give way first. But like someone said check if dampers are leaking

Found the photo of it:

That's all that was left clinging on to 1 of the absorbers

You can get a set of KYB gas shocks from Ric-Tat, Transglober Auto or Yixuan trading.

Installation about $80 locally.

But check if your absorber are leaking or overly bouncy, does it bottom easy?
For the sounds , it could be your bump stops.

your fix is to drive slowly over humps. then you'll realize the noise is gone.

S$590 for a pair of KYB abosrbers with installation is it consider a fair price? My ride is Kia Cerato Forte btw..

I remember changing a pair previously for around S$600 as well for a Nissan Sunny.. Can't remember the brand but should be the same as the stock absorber since the change was done at Tan Chong..

a pair for $590 is expensive for Forte. all 4 for $590 is a fair price.

Gas one better?

Not really bottom easily.. When ppl from back seat alight & get out of car then got the sound..

Mechanic will know exactly which part need to replace?

Speaking of gas shocks has anybody tried a combination of KYB excel G and KYB gas-a-just?

My ride doesn't exact bottom out when I fetch 3 pax behind but you can tell it tilts slightly backwards.
