Shopee security and data privacy issue

Eventually they admitted they should not ask for NRIC after I threaten to complain to IMDA and data privacy authority. Took me super long time to resolve. Had to talk to their so call executive management person. They still did not answer some of my questions like what exactly I did that cause the ban. Well, I seldom use Shopee nowadays. If it happened to me again, I will straight away write to IMDA and data privacy aithority. Let the authorities settle with them.

Thanks for the tip! So you managed to get your account back without showing your NRIC? I’ve already written to PDPC, on this. Also found out a few others on xiaohongshu who had their account banned at about the same time and date as I did (yesterday 6pm or so). Makes me believe that it was some glitch that shopee just got lazy to investigate and just put the onus on the banned people to prove they didn’t do anything wrong by providing NRIC. One person asked to delete her account and shopee had the cheek to tell her she cannot delete her account unless she provides her Nric ?!?! Now gathering the number of people having this issue to feedback to PDPC if needed. Sigh.
