Shopping for PSU

I am thinking of buying a power supply unit include installation from fuwell or pc themes. Are they reliable and charge for installation of PSU ?

It is not difficult to replace the PSU on your own. Unless you suspect other issue may cope up.

Power supply is pretty much plug and play. Just take note of what is plugged in before you remove old psu and ensure the same for the nets one after installation.

Im sure almost all shops will charge u for installation of PSU, even if its just 1 component. Take note that your existing cables must be changed to the new PSU cables. You cannot use back old ones.

This may take some time coz there are other rigs to be built that came in earlier than you. So, you might need to wait a few hours for your turn (similar to seeing doctor at polyclinic).

PCtheme and Fuwell are both fine. Yes, they will charge extra for helping you to install.

Just take a picture of all connections.

Then remove old psu.

Connect new psu according to the picture.

Thank you to all the reply, I just went to sls this morning walk into pc theme asking for a psu, the salesman open up my pc and found that diy psu can't be use on my Lenovo pc, what a disappointment.

What is sfx psu, new or used ? I want to upgrade my power supply not replace a similar psu. Anyway my motherboard powe supply pin is 6 pins while the diy psu is 14 pins.

Your case can only support a limited size psu, not as if you want it to fit in, it will fit in. SFX is small form factor psu. Norm size is ATX psu.

For your scenario, it may not be wise to upgrade coz some branded PC (dell, hp, acer, etc) uses specially made motherboards in which only their psu can fit. Otherwise, normal upgrade may not be possible.

Might be better to build a new pc rather than trying to upgrade a dying system branded pc.

there is some one selling used pc or diy pc using used components, price is quite low than new diy pc. if u need help or contact, i can pass you. btw, i only bought a component from him once but he sounded a decent chap thru my conversation with him and his item price is reasonable.

Your PSU is probably in a custom format. You can check out ebay for compatible PSUs based on the model of your PC.

Alternatively, you can just build a new PC and sell off the old one.

Dell old PC use non standard psu. Rest is fine. Problem is size of psu. Size may not be standard type. So may have to repair via component level.
