Short CMOS battery lifespan

I have a C2D system going through CMOS batteries very quickly. On average, each battery last ~4months. That is ridiculously short. I've not seen this kind of behaviour with any other of my systems. What can be the cause?

i wonder if it could be your mobo have some power leak that causes it. maybe its time to get a nnew PC?

One way to continue using and retain the CMOS settings is not to off the main power even after desktop shutdown. This will allow the 5V supply from PSU continue to power the motherboard CMOS circuitry.

Are you using generic made-in-China batteries?

It's for my parents to use, so it is a bit "old". Problem is that I don't know how to diagnose this problem.

The most recent one is a Energizer, lasting barely 4 months.

Looks like a hardware problem. You can consider sourcing for a replacement MB, should be $10 or $20 used. Cheaper than changing batteries all the time.
