Of course shortage cause the public hospitals in Malaysia are charging much much lesser $$$ to their patients so to afford to pay high salaries to the doctors ?

It is good that your experience with the doctor was pleasant, but being nice does not necessarily reflect the quality or depth of medical care provided. A friendly attitude is important, but clinical knowledge, accurate diagnosis, and the willingness to look deeper into health issues matter more. Should be careful not to confuse good service with good medicine because they do not always go together.

Remember I told you many times that what average patients think is a "good doctor" is not necessarily aligned with what other doctors or HCPs think is a "good doctor".

Dealing with people is complex and complicated. Different people have different needs, different preferences, different wants, different life experiences, different expectations, different opinions.

The SCIENCE part is not necessarily always the key to achieving goals in Medicine.

My in laws have some regular doctors they go to. Once i visited one local indian doctor in JB whom they recommended, so much more professional and take the time to understand my issue. I also admire the fact that he seems to be taking patients from all walks of life and you see some very poor people waiting for his consult and I heard he doesn't take their money.

He is 100x better than the some of the SG GPs who took 30 secs to "diagnose" me and ask me to pay some exorbitant amounts for his expertise or the lack thereof.

Ya
It's not issue of 'nice'
Though "nice" is .... nice

It's more issue of competence

@Checkyrmed

see what I mean? In this case the good doctor is one who takes time to listen and understand. Have empathy and compassion. This is professional.

Also taking on poor patients who don't pay. This is 100x better.

No mention about science and metabolic pathways.

Some doctors can talk in an understanding way but I wonder are they good in their work

And others are bad
I suspect one asked me to return so he can charge me another round.

The next time same thing happened to me again, I didn't go to any doctor.

I saved TWO sets of medical fees
Got better without taking any medication either

Ya but humans got many different ways of thinking and feeling.

In many cases is the emotions they come away with after seeing the doctor.

Remember that when people go to the doctor they are usually in a NEGATIVE spot

Pain
Anxiety
Worry
Insert "symptom" of abnormality

Competency alone but does not address the above will lead to the patient not feeling validated.

It is very much an emotional transaction too.

Even in SG my family have 2 group of doctors we go to.

First group is the MC group. You need a quick MC to rest or get you out of something, these doctors are the ones to go to. Generic meds, generic advice, quick consult, quick to drop an MC for us.

Second group is the really sick and want to get well group. These doctors really pay attention and their consult will last alot longer than a wave of the stethoscope. Most importantly you get better quickly after seeing them.

What's the price difference between visiting the two different types? Is one cheaper than the other? Or about same?

I have company medical plans so don't know the actual costs, but the 2nd group of doctors, is a long wait.

There are 2 doctors I'll usually go to along the same stretch in TPY. One, full of people, the 2nd, empty most of the time. I guess many people also know who to go to if they wish to get well.

Long wait means dealing with serious issues and doing serious work.

No wait means actually don't even need to be there.

Same for any business and service really.

That's why A&E cannot be no wait one. It will not be logical.

You’re spot on, there are very few good doctors in Singapore, which helps explain why we’re not as healthy as we should be.

What is "good doctor" to you? One who talks about nutrition etc right?

Can share who the good doctors are?

Do you know this doctor last time practice in Telok Blangah? Big on nutrition? He passed away already unfortunately.
