Should I go G-Sync or Freesync?

Currently using a nosync 27" FHD paired with a 1060 6gb, i5-8400. I am likely to purchase a UWQHD to meet both gaming and non-gaming needs.
My issue:
Gsync screens are expensive!
The Freesync ones are less expensive. I'm eyeing this one for its size and picture-by-picture mode (among other features), though its also costly (but it will be useful for my work needs as well) :

I can't decide if I should get an expensive Gsync that works well for games? Or should I get a Freesync that will also be useful for non-gaming needs?

Questions:
- is Gsync 'better' than Freesync?
- what about the cards? Is Nividia 'better' than AMD?

Let's put it this way, Nvidia GPUs tend to be cheaper than AMD GPUs now. In order for you to use FreeSync, you will need an AMD GPU. That is also assuming you can find one AMD mid/ high end card now with the current crypto mining craze.
For games, Nvidia tend to have an edge, but also subjected to what games you are looking to play.

The most demanding games will be FPS. But I'm not a 'demanding' gamer. So it looks like my 'cost' will be lower if I get a Gsync screen since I can still use the 1060 albeit at lower settings.

Is there any Gsync screens that has dual or triple inputs? RGBs not important.

Suggest you don't buy g sync monitors as they are super expensive because of the gsync feature. G sync is also not very important unless you are super hardcore gamer and very scare of screen tearing etc.

Just get a cheap free sync monitor of your choice and pair it with your nvidia gpu.

Freesync will not work but the high refresh rate still do. Eg freesync/nosync 100/144/etc hz refresh rate can still be selected in control panel. Only sync doesn't work.

In instances where a high refresh rate freesync monitor is coupled with a nvidia card, it will simply turn to a nosync high refresh rate monitor.

Got money, get G-synced enabled monitor.
Not much money, get a high refresh rate monitor.

Almost every comment I read on https://www.reddit.com/r/ultrawidemasterrace/, every user swears by G-Sync.

I'm running gtx1080 with gsync monitor, the package doesn't come cheap but frankly i don't see much benefit from it. If i could go back time and rebuild my rig, i wouldn't go with this combo. I would get a good amd card + a good monitor that display good picture quality (either dell or lg). Free sync or no sync not a big deal.

I don't play regularly. These are in my library and not completed yet: BF1, COD WWII, Doom, Wolfenstein II: The New Collussus. Currently, I play with high to ultra setting depending on game.

I'm in the "not much money". I think I'm leaning towards the freesync with dual source input.

Thanks for the feedback. Looking at QuadHD. I've seen text/excel on FHD ultrawide. Cannot make it. I sit close to the screen too. Most of LG's are FHD.
Any reason why Samsung's not there?

GPU upgrade definitely on the cards - just not now or anytime in the very near future.

G-sync is a nice bonus and not an essential feature. I don't really notice any difference with G-sync, even at 144 Hz.

Once you use G-sync, you can never go back. ( At 3440 x 1440p 100hz )
unless you want to reduce some game settings to medium.

Big difference due to G-sync when I switch from CF791 --> X34p

Most monitors with GSync are expensive. Meanwhile, all AMD cards are expensive with even bigger markups than their green counterparts in the market. Either way, you're gonna spend heavily.

Hence the question you should ask yourself is - Are you prepared to spend to get GSync/Freesync or not

At ultrawide resolution 3440 x 1440 which most of the users there are using, need G-sync to smoothen the fps dips if the user wants to game at max settings.
For my case, impossible for my 1080 to maintain 100fps in games like AC Origins, NBA 2k18 etc.

But since TS is not getting ultrawide, then maybe G-sync is not that important.

I pair with intel somemore. No sync.

Gsync is also needed to avoid stutttering/lag if the GPU is unable to maintain fps at a monitor’s refresh rate especially at ultra wide 1440p 100hz or 4K resolution.
Too taxing on the GPU.
That’s why so many people are getting AW3418DW / X34p on that subreddit, there was a thread about this too.

So back to the topic, since TS is not running at high resolutions or high refresh rate, gsync might not be that beneficial to him.

it is not only to avoid tearing, it allows minimal screen lag when experiencing low fps, which is the point jeff was trying to bring across
