I was just wondering if I should upgrade or wait for skylake and ddr4 to drop price further.

My current setup is this

Windows 7 pro x64bit sp1
Motherboard gigabyte z68xp-ud3
Processor i7-2600 cpu 3.4ghz, 3701 MHz 4 cores, 8 logical processors
And Radeon sapphire 6970 2gb with dual fan
2x 4gb dual channel ddr3 ram @ 665mhz
Hitachi sata 500gb hard disk .

All comments are welcome.
If I upgrade should I be looking at skylake or just 4th or 5th generation processor .

Any specific reason why you want to upgrade? I think sandy bridge is still capable. Unless you die die want the features of skylake platform (e.g. M.2 SSD, good integrated graphics, etc.)

If you want to upgrade, go for skylake. No point going for 4th or 5th gen.

Yes, if you feel your computer is "slow", just add an SSD. It makes a whole world of a difference.

your set-up still can last a long way

as many had said, get a SSD and you will see and feel the great improvement.

perhaps change the GPU to a better one

save up the money.

nowadays PC can last a few more years compare to older days

I moved from Sandy 2600k to 6700k. To be honest, 2600k is still very much capable and really not a lot of difference moving up, assuming you use a powerful GPU and SSD.

Thanks for all the advise guys . Really appreciated . I was actually quite lost because my computer start up slow and didn't give me good fps during gaming.

I will keep my current computer but upgrade to an ssd and keep my 500gb Hitachi as secondary hdd.

One more question . Should I also consider upgrading my ram? Considering ram price is cheap now ? If so any recommendations what ram to get ? Thanks a lot Bros.

Yes! Ram can consider 16gb.

New game like quantum break has a recommended ram of 16gb :s22:

This is what i recommend you.

1) Keep your 2600 + Z68 mobo.

2) Your memory just add another 2x4GB. Go search for 2nd hand.

3) Upgrade to a SSD, either 240/256/480/512GB. Keep your 500GB as back up or storage disk.

4) Your current rig can run a HD6970, it WILL run a GTX970 no issue. Been there, done that.

Actually I'm mainly using to play Cs go , lol , dota2 and sometimes other fps games like call of duty .

I think I will get a 250gb Samsung 850 ssd.

For ram, do I get 2 x 8gb and what MHz I should be getting and any recommended brand ?

For graphic card , is it recommended I change graphic card or just Tahan first?

How well is 6970 2gb compare to modern graphic card ?

Some of my friends suggest me to invest in a 144mhz benq 2411 monitor ? Any pros can advise me . Thanks , I'm heading to Sim Lim tmr to settle this .

All help are welcome . Thanks alot Bros .
