Share good deals with you all if you don't mind junk stuff.

Got these from Taobao recently:

CPU - Intel Xeon E5-2680 C2, 8 Cores, 2.7Ghz = (RMB600 or SGD122)
RAM - 64GB (Samsung DDR3L 1600MHz ECC Reg x 8pcs) = (RMB90/pc or SGD18.30/pc)
Motherboard - HP Z420 c/w 24pin to 18pin power adaptor (RMB1100 or SGD224)
CPU cooler - Coolermaster T400i (RMB99 or SGD20.20)

Super worth the money spent! Should have planned for a dual Xeon system instead .. haha

How come China always have used/refurbished Xeon CPUs and server motherboards for sale?

Does Taobao do any QC before reselling them?

Singapore like very rare to find used server parts.

My friend and I had exactly the same MB as yours. Both died. And we both bought replacement from Taobao. Asus Z77 ITX and Gigabyte H77 ITX.

My brother's asrock H61 also died. So replaced it with Asus H77 MATX from Taobao too.

All 3 still going strong after almost a year :D:D

Good stuff. E5-2680 C2 at S$12X. Someone was selling S$150 for E5-2670 over at VR and 3 fellows bought from him. Pity those 3.

I bought from taobao directly through their appointed forwarder 4PX. Shipped in 2 batches to avoid GST.

Btw, all stuff looked and felt brand new to me. These could be spare parts that were of no use now as most data centres seem to be decommissioning their sandy bridge ep powered systems.

Being server and workstation grade components, they are pretty robust.

For me, I think it is worth the risk as parts are extremely cheap. A Xeon E5-2670 C2 (8-core 2.6GHz) can be had for about SGD90. Btw, I opted for E5-2680 C2 which is only about SGD30 more. ECC Reg RAM is dirt cheap at SGD18 per 8GB.

Motherboard is the most expensive part here. I chose one that came with the C602 chipset having support for ECC Reg RAM. I avoided those extremely cheap chinese-branded motherboards, and opted for HP Z420 workstation board. The drawbacks are non-standard connectors being used, like 18 pin power supply, 5 pin CPU fan header, etc., but these could be easily resolved.

Other than C602 chipset, you can choose one that comes with the X79 chipset such as Asus Rampage IV Extreme at about RMB1300 or SGD265. However, I am not very sure if it can support ECC Reg RAM at all.

The advantage of using ECC Reg RAM is that it is a lot cheaper than unbuffered ECC or DDR3 RAM.

How can server grade ECC RAM be cheaper than consumer grade non-ECC RAM?

I am absolutely confused. :s22:

haha just went to try find but the price is see is around 700RMB

Go search again. Easily 7 to 8 sellers and some even cheaper. The actual taobao.com website. Not the sea or English version.

Most of their items at taobao is good quality. I also believed it was like black market in the past. Just have to be careful. A good analogy for things they sell is like those qnix off-grade monitors. Works perfectly as long as don't be fussy.

Hmm, tried to search for lga 1155 motherboard on taobao and realise that its quite cheap. About $20 for an asus h61 motherboard and $22 for h61 gigabyte motherboard. Think its 2nd hand as the chinese comments says so. But is it safe ma. Anyone buy before. Will they give some form of warranty.
