Hi. I asking this question on behalf of a friend.

My friend right now is a poly diploma holder, with a slot reserve for him in the local unis. He pass the first few stages of the pilot test, and is currently awaitng for enlistment before going overseas for training to become a qualified pilot.

As a RSAF pilot, what will be his pinnacle rank? He want to become a BG, but as far as I know, you need to be SAFSO scholar in order to become at least a colonel (do correct me if I am wrong here). His poly results are not excellent, hence he is not able to clinch it. As a result, is there any other possible path to become a BG? How about a scholarship after his uni studies?

Else, what will be his rank progression like if he dont have a scholarship?

Thank you.

RSAF pilot can be as high as LG 3 Stars CDF...

If not wrong you don't need to be a SAFOS to be a BG, but if not wrong you need at least SAFOS to be MG meaning service chiefs.

There are still "farmers" BG but it's very rare and must be very impressive.

As a farmer, 1 shouldn't even aim for BG that 1 is crazy. A more possible aim is LTC and treat getting COL as a real bonus.

Usually if sign on one will get some study award. Pilot also hv their own. i heard after 5 years then can go study. can't confirm on that

local study award right?

But to be BG even if not SAFOS scholar, at least results must be stellar right? Like eg; first class degree or what? Or does performance play a more important part?

Got a few study awards.

Being a COL already very difficult don't even talk about BG.

Education is I will say the most important, without it even extremely good performance also no use. If you have extremely good education and get scholarship, performance is like secondary that kind.

It depends on one's CEP (career end point) dependent on a lot of factors.

If you are on a study award, you probably get promoted to cpt 1 year after u grad. it's like a sure thing.

high flyer probably late 20s already a major, early 30s ltc, mid 30s col, late 30s bg etc.

i dunno abt the rest, but i will say for a farmer, early 30s get maj is consider quite good.

firstly, CEP doesn't stand for career end point, it's current estimated potential. it is the main factor in the speed of your progression.

secondly, everyone with a degree and, having completed OCS, gets promoted to captain within 6 months. not even 1 year.

your high flyer rank progression is correct.

your friend should forget about being a BG if he's not at least a SMS holder. Even the best pilots in RSAF can still be stuck at LTC at age 40+. Take a look at the Black Knights pilots and you'll see.

Maybe but I was told it's Career end point. so who knows?

actually not EVERYONE with a degree. must be specific. everyone with a recognised degree...i know there is something about the emplacement to cpt is either lta for dunno how many years or grad for how many months. which ever is first. can't recall the details.

pilot is not only about the flying part. staff tour is like the most impt part tt determines your performance.

aiyah, recognised dun need to say la :s13: do you even expect them to give you degree pay or officer if your unrecognised?

the person who told you it's career end point is wrong. i know people who do rankings, i've seen rankings, heck, you could even simply google CEP and find out what it stands for.

staff tour is not the most impt. CEP is. i also didnt say it's only the flying part. just trying to point out to TS that BG for a farmer is super hard.

be a bit more specific ma...

I also know ppl who do ranking, thats what they tell me? so unless you see black and white (always the case) it's still unknown who is right or wrong ma. ok la, that 1 is i also can't confirm. i noe go google sure got a lot of results, but who knows what's correct?

my response is to your "Take a look at the Black Knights pilots and you'll see." doesn't mean those pilot in black knights who fly damn well means they are damn good in performance right? i noe CEP is the most impt. but combat vs staff tour, i will say staff tour is the most impt. my definition of staff tour is working at the service hq level not those unit level.

wah piang leh. it IS current estimated potential lah. you go take a survey or just go search google. the people you know don't even know what CEP stands for even when they do rankings? current estimated potential is the dictionary definition of CEP. it's a fact. there's no such thing as "who knows what's correct" when if you ask anyone who actually works in the civil service with ranking responsibilites i.e. director-level, PSD people, (competent) HR people, they can tell you straightaway what CEP. please stop living in a hole kthx. government websites say CEP stand for current estimated potential. scholarly journals, newspaper articles, parliamentary speeches, ALL say current estmated potential. did you know that CEP system originated from Shell? Guess what they call it? YES. CURRENT ESTIMATED POTENTIAL. no one rmeotely educated would come up with a fricking parochial sounding name like "career end point". LOL

career end point, current estimated potential. blah blah blah. still refers to the same thing. the highest rank you can go.

to ppl who refer as career end point, to them, yea my career is ending with this rank.
to ppl who refer as current estimated potential, yea. i might hit this rank at the end of my career.

its like half filled cup or half empty glass.

so why argue?

it's abt the same for 'commissioned' MDES officers too? with a jump of grades at the junior officer level to denote promotion?
