Top facing ports are a big, big minus in my book... Over time, dust is gonna clutter inside them way faster than other orientations. It's surprising most case builders still do not come with a small open/close lid designed for their top facing ports; hell, even my ancient lian li case almost a decade ago had it for front facing ports.

Some people prefer to have top facing USB port so that they can easy access the port front their desk. People place their computer on the floor.

In the end, probably boils down to personal preference.

Top USB ports

• allows easy reach when the case is floor based
• allows movement sensitive portable USB HDD (default cables are usually short) to be placed stably on the case top
• easily covered, use a strip of nice looking cardboard and some tape or the book/mag/newspapers you are reading... er, just use some imagination
