I recommend the Changi Connect Mifi Router, unlimited usage, $5 a day. It some of the remote locations, the hotel wifi was pathetic and I used MiFi router 24hrs instead.

The thing about MiFi is that you can charge it with a battery bank anyway and you are likely to be carrying one for your phone.

If you activate here before u leave, it will begin the day 1 immediately? Or day 1 only start when you start to surf overseas? The number of days go by calendar day or the time of activation?
You can activate just before you fly off. Recall it's time of activation.

I wud just go MiFi. e routers last about 8hrs or more. yr phone lasts longer since using WiFi so u have more battery for taking photos etc. it's one way or e other, charge MiFi after 8hrs or charge yr phone. charging MiFi is easier too, just plug in e powerbank n leave it in yr bag. u dun have to fumble with a cable attached to yr phone etc.

When I was there in Japan. Damn their WiFi egg rental is expensive.

Iirc their data plan has certain capped data. If you want unlimited you got to choose 3g.

But I don't recommend getting either their sim or egg rental. If you travelling solo egg is far too expensive, egg is better for group travelling.

What I did there was to use m1 data passport instead. A much cheaper option. Another way is to use Starhub prepaid like how the earlier comments mentioned.

sim card also. at least can use for international calls if family not so familiar with WhatsApp calls. 3.6GB is a lot of data especially if you know the free WiFi spots in Japan.

Decided to get the Starhub overseas data travel plan instead.
2GB for $15 over 30 days.

Hope it will be enough.

For solo, SIM card is better since don’t need to bring extra things and also charger.

But then SIM card many got per day limit not unlimited. Often in japan, I burst my 500mb per day limit since got a lot of time to surf net during train or bus rides between attractions.

I prefer using the wifi router cause to me changing the sim card is quite troublesome. Also unlimited data!!:s13:

My experience with the battery life span is good leh, lasts us the whole day. Not sure about yours but mine is from changi recommends, maybe you can try!!

Also they recently reduced their prices for japan. So cost wise it may be more worth it

Depend on usage, normal youtubing surfing net and msging - Changi wifi is good enough.

For me I am navigating and constantly need steady 4G, so I subscribe solo m1 passport also for myself (driver plus tour guide)

while my family uses the Changi wifi. Prepare an extra power bank for the wifi.

I've booked Changi WiFi for 9 days at approx $30
Good deal considering other sim cards either have limited data or more expensive for unlimited data. Best of all, no need to change sim cards.

Data sim is much convenient.

However is buying a data sim over there not advisable? I see they have docomo Softbank etc datasim?

Usually I go tw I will just buy data sim from those airport booth.
