Went to SLS today to buy parts and surprised to see the crowd of peoples, all the levels fill with people. So many people building PC, carrying PC rigs around, buying parts and even have youth sitting at staircase looking at pc list......


Did SLS recently return to form like it's busy days or this have something to do with more homebase E-Learning thing going on? I know after phase 2 reopen, alot of people visit SLS to repair their Phones or PC/laptop.



I'm ok with the queuing. Happy for the shops though.

SLS more crowded maybe because there are no heartland computer shops for the repairs and build PCs. they seem to be gone. don't remember seeing one in Choa Chu Kang/Jurong/Clementi central. when is SLS closing down ?

I feel that, SLS is part of SG PC building culture. Some things can not get online one, bespoke things like building PC, get PC parts, cable length, color size, noise level, etc...

Building a PC complete from online feel different compare to going down to SLS, look at part list(sitting or standing around) with friends and eating after that before heading home to build/troubleshoot and setup the whole desk.

They are generally more power hungry, yes. But they are also more powerful. So it really depends on what is your preference vs needs. At least in the near future, desktop will not go away.

Gaming DIY desktop is totally different experience with a laptop. There's whole level of customization. From customized aluminum PC case, power supply cables, customized keyboard, DIY RGB backlit monitor, to 32" gaming monitor!
It's a billion dollar industry.

Hundreds of reasons why I never use a laptop, except for work.

Glad to know SLS still doing well. Cannot imagine if one day no more SLS and DIY shop. Building your own DIY desktop is a different experience altogether

Can your laptop install an interface card for CNC machine or other industrial machine required proprietary hardware interface/driver controller card?

Hiding at home surfing net does not give you a better understanding of workstation computer usage and deployment in production line. Can your puny 15.6" laptop display able to project the entire Mathlab configuration/setting so that other users can clearly see and verify the setting without using an external 30 inches monitor?

I'm paying the rental, electrical bill and all expenses of my work place, my 3 laptops are merely a tool for simple site job/work that does not required large screen and hardware interface controller card.
