seems you need all the possible LTE band in that SIM router /MIFI device

note down then telco's LTE band and see if that is supported by that sim router you want.

you still need spare phone for the destination country usage anyway for local calls and sms and emergency.

before I have a huawei mifi and no longer using it

I have this during everytime I travel
1. iPhone - always SG simcard(roaming). using for incoming sms. dont like then hassle of changing sim card and then chat apps will tell a sim card card change

2. spare phone (andriod based) - local sim card of destination country. using for local hotspot.

3. battery for iphone and spare phone

i use to do what you do.

use the spare phone to share hotspot and battery drain too fast.. and for my android phone, it has hotspot timeout so it will disconnect when no activities.

then i use ipad to share hotspot as it has bigger battery and for IOS i think there is no timeout for no activities.

using MIFI will be a better choice and i think there are some which have auto apn setting
