SIM summer immersion

SIM summer immersion (extended till 15 feb)

Hi to all SIM students,

Not sure if you guys heard of the summer immersion program before.

If you have heard about it, has anyone went for the briefing for the various universities which was conducted last 2 weeks in which I totally missed. I kept on checking Simconnect but no news on posted until I check it today.

If anyone have went for the briefing, care to share some details on what was briefed and what is the situation like?

The cost of the program is on average S$5k to S$10k depending on how many sessions you are going and which university you choose.

I am finding another person who might have the same choice of university to perhaps go together so we can share accommodation.

I only went for the Korean university talks (not all but some). The pricing is actually pretty reasonable (cheapest is less than $2k; Seoul U is like $5k plus though). I know George Washington is about $7k! The programme itinerary (of sorts) can be found on the SIMGE website, not SIMCONNECT (;

Which one will you be choosing? Korean one is actually average pricing, as it's only slightly less than LSE only. Good thing is the air fare and spending is lesser since we have a slight advantage in exchange rate.

Eh HanYang only $2.5k only, quite shocked. If you considering HK which is cheapest only $1.4k.

Faster decide, cause deadline is 6 feb.

Not necessarily, but it's better to get a friend/buddy prior to the trip.
I read that some place do not help people to pair up, some do but they do it at random and can't guarantee you will be with someone you know.
SIM say they may help do pairing but also no guarantee.

I don't want to be paired with a random person cause you won't know who you will be sleeping with.

Not uncommon to go as friends and return on unfriendly terms. I find more of these somehow

There is 2 briefing coming up tomorrow. One for Kings college London held in SIM, the other as a webinar for ICL.

I won't say the timing and location, cause if you are SIM student, you should be able to see it through SIMCONNECT.

I am a guy and went through NS as well. But these people are Singaporeans like me so I feel more at ease. Foreigners you won't know if they are have some tricks on their mind. Daily meeting up and or travel together is fine, but not sleeping together in the same room.

I am a deep sleeper, so I am usually more wary because travelling overseas is much different in Singapore and I think being on guard is quite important also.

depends u dont get to sleep with them in same room after all. Some place diff room.

Foreigner going in alone will feel the same way much like yourself.

It's one of my choices wor. But my friend seem to want LSE and he is like want modules that I am not even able to study together one.

I am thinking either HanYang, CuHK or LSE, although KCL also sounded very appealing. (But LSE and KCL quite ex)

Well, if I can, I would like to go to California, but considering the course and my slight familiarity with Korea, I choose Korea. I am actually abit thorn between SKK and Hanyang. The thing is that my friends had just graduated from SIM. Supposedly they are eligible to apply via SIM but our beloved school just decides that they are not acceptting any graduates application anymores which they cant enjoy the partnership fee for Hanyang thus decided to go SKK.

The fact that I have interested modules in Hanyang which are more practical based and brings you out of the class while SKK modules abit...just like the teaching style in what I experience in SIM, I am not sure if I should just go for the trip with my friends to enjoy our final student trip or should I just risk and meet up new friends in hanyang and enjoy the trip with myself and probably new friends meet. It's our final student trip...>.<

I wasn't looking at any of US immersion as the cost is too high.

Anyway SKK also has partner university rate, so your friend won't be able to enjoy it as well. But of course SKK is cheaper in terms of course fees without partner rate. I was also taken by surprise that 1st year graduands can't go, which was lucky I decided to go this year instead.

Would you mind sharing more on SKK and HanYang as I felt that both seems to be quite similar.

Anyway i do feel that you should go with your friends since you don't always get the opportunity, in fact I doubt you will have such opportunity to even go on an extended trip overseas with the same group of friends. I recommend your decision to be either you joining them or them joining you.
