Did u set the APN as TPG? (Samsung default is internet)

Did u use it in Singapore for at least 48h straight before leaving and SMS to 1218 to check if it's roaming ready? (Mandatory requirement)

Are you able to find an iPhone user, setup the APN and connect, and see if the device change from "Carrier XX.X" to "Orange France XX.X"? And also connect to the roaming carrier?
(If the sim card doesn't change to Orange France after trying to manually connect for at least 10 mins, means it's not roaming ready. Don't bother using SIMBA SIM for this trip, it won't get fixed until you're back in Singapore.)
IMHO.
Simba ask me almost exactly the same thing.
It is useless because I can roam to Malaysia and faced with cannot connect in Heathrow and JFK.
To me, cannot connect means the roaming telco reject.
If iPhone can, means compatibility issue.
Will Simba not sell you the SuperRoam plan if it is a compatibility issue ?
Probably sweep under the carpet.

IMHO.
Cannot connect with Samsung Note10+ in Heathrow/London and JFK/NewYork.
The same phone can connect to Malaysia.
Anyway, terminate the SuperRoam.
Suspect maybe Exynos chipset.

If it's SoC issue, there's nothing the carrier can do to fix the issue.
This is chipset level, and it's quite unlikely that the manufacturer can change would major driver overhaul.

You can't expect the operator to "educate" users to the finest detail regarding this issue too. Later on the customers would think they're trying to upsell the phones available in store too.

Simply put, you can't please everyone.

To me, the operator is ignoring the issue.
I crafted an email indicating I can roam in Malaysia but cannot in Heathrow and JFK.
And the operator tells me to try as if the roaming roaming is not working.
The operator has done it before, educate the subscriber which mobile cannot VoLTE.
Is the list up to date? Unfortunately no.

If the operator is not selling the SuperRoam package, then yes, you can't please everyone.

P.S. Simba is giving me 2.88 Mbps Down and 4.51 Mbps Up in my area. Already not enough bandwidth to go around and yet they are distributing flyers to doorstep for more subscribers. 🤣

All telcos don't have enough bandwidth on LTE Band 8. Try moving to a window to connect to Band 40. You should easily get 10x speeds there.

I am having issue with my sim card now. Just arrived in Vietnam yesterday but unable to connect to local network. Now my phone is showing 'No SIM', am using iPhone 12. Anyone faced the same issue before and how to solve it?

IIRC. for TPG, you won't get 10x speed changing band. The difference between 8 and 40 is one of the band, the upload/download speed is almost symmetrical whereas the other, you get faster download but much lower. upload.

Update.
Band / Down / Up
TPG LTE Band 8 - 12.1 Mbps / 9.32 Mbps
TPG LTE Band 40 - 1.29 Mbps / 0.10 Mbps. <--- 10 times slower !

No SIM means the device never even manage to read the sim card.

is it necessary to activate roaming before going overseas?
Did u connect to SIMBA network in Singapore for at least 48h straight right before u fly?

Are you testing with both at the same signal strength and quality? Of course Band 40 will lose if you put it at a huge disadvantage

Likely not great, manage expectations.

Can test by using your phone as a wifi hotspot, then connect other devices to it

How can I be roam ready?

To be roam ready, please ensure that your SIMBA SIM is slotted into your mobile device at least 48 hours before departure. This allows your SIM to be updated with the latest parameters.

To check if your SIM is roaming ready, SMS <SIMBA> to 1218 if you are in Singapore or DIAL *1218# if you are overseas. Your usage details will be sent to your number via SMS.

On-device settings, please ensure the following:
  • Data settings: Turn on Data Roaming
  • Network selection: Set to Automatic
  • APN settings: Key in TPG to Name and APN

Ya. Im not sure why phone is unable to detect when in Vietnam.

Yes the sim card is in phone for more than 48 hours before flying out of singapore. No issues with connectivity and calls when in singapore.

I test on the same device at the same location, Band 8 then Band 40.
