Had a 10 year old singtel prepaid card.

managed to port to simba through the outlet at Tampines bus interchange.

so the guy asked to top up $11 to my prepaid card to activate something. I didn’t know why. I guess it’s maybe due to the card not activated for online or something. I received sms from singtel saying top up $11 MA successful.

after that was issued new simba SIM card. The data straightaway worked. But cannot do outgoing call or sms.

22 nov 8pm request port singtel prepaid to simba

24 nov 0206 hours. Received sms from simba that port in successful. So happy with the whole process.

so when is the earliest I can port out. My destiny is heya .maybe buy at the same outlet

sounds like the buzz wanted to earn comms from topping up your singtel prepaid. Need to blacklist them. I heard stories of retailers charging for SIMBA sim card when it's free.

Anyway, you need to stay at least 30days to port out to heya.

I believe your line has to be active to be able to port out.
So in prepaid context, the prepaid line has to have some balance/validity to be able to port out, right?

Edit: not to mention you also received $11 top up notification so the guy didn't eat anything extra

I remember mu uncle once was at tampines simba outlet to collect sim card, the shop wanted to charge a SIM card fee. I told him NO, don't pay.

Our apology but your accusation of scam does not justify as :

1) per your screenshot , the $11 topped up was successful and the amount collected was $11 exactly without any surcharge.

2) It is the correct protocol that there should be sufficient fund in the sim card to perform Porting. Singtel ‘s lowest top up value for the main account is $11 , hence a topped up is required if he requested for Porting service.

this is the email from the shop hq. I think I close case as my own brother’s misadventure. Never do due diligence before buying. Could have used his app to top up. Maybe only top $5 enough. But don’t know why singtel prepaid/hi card system so cui. So confusing and need to do so many meandering.

the reasoning seem to me it's invalid. They still don't reply on why is there a need to top up before porting. It isn't like Postpaid where you owe this month bill and you initiate port, it will be rejected. It's prepaid though. Hence, i think is the shop wanted to earn. If not why is there a need to top up.

I will just write to imda see what they say. Seem like a system where many people can be confusion. And the confusion can help people with ill intentions to misguide or abuse

i cced g-hicard@singtel.com . Is that the correct email for singtel.

Now is 2023.

Last year 2022, I accompanied someone to SIMBA's Kaki Bukit service centre -- to do prepaid porting to SIMBA postpaid $10 plan.

We were told by the SIMBA counter staff that -- there needs to be sufficient money in the prepaid balance -- for the porting (to postpaid) to be successful.
(Personally, I wasn't aware of such requirement -- and I didn't bother to verify w/ IMDA about this.)

At that time the person's prepaid balance was less than $0.50 -- so we were advised to top up.

We actually asked the SIMBA counter staff how much top up is required in order to do the prepaid to postpaid porting -- and the answer given was -- the minimum top up amount will do.

Since the person was using M1 prepaid -- and the minimum top up for M1 prepaid can be as low as $2 -- so we just proceed to top up $2 to the person's M1 prepaid.

After the $2 top up is done to the M1 prepaid -- we showed the SIMBA counter staff the top up was successful -- then the SIMBA counter staff proceed with the prepaid to postpaid porting.

(Subsequently) There was no other issue encountered -- and the person's M1 prepaid was successfully ported to SIMBA's postpaid $10 plan -- after 1 to 2 working days.

***
If you're familar with Singtel prepaid -- you'll know that the minimum top up amount for Singtel prepaid has been changed to $11 (sometime) this year 2023.

If it is true that the minimum top up amount is required in the prepaid balance when doing prepaid to postpaid porting...

And the prepaid balance happens to be below this amount prior to the postpaid porting -- then unfortunately for the case of Singtel prepaid -- $11 is the minimum top up amount (nowadays).

(In the email reply you received, see below -- it is also stated that sufficient funds are needed in the prepaid balance for porting to postpaid).

Our apology but your accusation of scam does not justify as :

1) per your screenshot , the $11 topped up was successful and the amount collected was $11 exactly without any surcharge.

2) It is the correct protocol that there should be sufficient fund in the sim card to perform Porting. Singtel ‘s lowest top up value for the main account is $11 , hence a topped up is required if he requested for Porting service.

wa, the shop of course defend themselves...

no commission how these business sustain... just top up for everyone for free? they doing non profit business? even non profit need some income to realistically sustain.. don't make sense...

when i top up at a physical store, i see them logging to telco website with their shop id... so of course some commissioned is tracked somewhere..
There are sellers offering simba and other mvno topup service. Shopee charges 2.16% commission and 2.16% transaction fee, Simba topup is still mostly $10 although some sellers charge $11. So there must be certain amount of topup commission for the shop.

For other mvno topup even has discount. eg maxx $12 plan only $10.60, $15 plan $12.80, Singtel prepaid $11 topup $10.80

if I now do online sign up, later can collect at their authorized dealer when open?

yes you can. Once you sign up, within 10 minutes, you will receive an email confirmation.

Go down any authorised SIM collection shop, bring along your IC and screenshot of your telco bill (or screenshot of bill) for SIM collection.
