Recently changed Android phones and realized that SIMBA Voice is mo longer available from the Store. If I am traveling and want to make local calls, does that mean I now have to pay roaming charges? Is there a better alternative?
It is not available, in Playstore. Google it, will find link for download as APK.

As long as the partnering overseas Telco has VOLTE, you may use the phone dialer to call and shall be deducted from the free allocated IDD mins.

I have tried calling from China, using Voice App. Deduction from my free 100 mins IDD was made.

That's not a given. The roaming network partner needs to support 2G, 3G, VoLTE, or VoNR calling (when roaming with a SIMBA SIM/eSIM). Some do, some don't. And this assumes your device is compatible with whatever the roaming network partner is providing.
In general it will work. No country was mentioned in the post.

For me, the app comes to play when one is connected to wifi but no roaming signal. And the app is useful when using it on another phone that does not have the simba sim card.

Someone recently mentioned that even with a copy of the apk still cannot make new registration for the voice app. If that is the case only existing installed and registered copy of the app will work.

you dun need simba voice app to make calls. u can use the phone's dialer.
Meant to say when I'm traveling overseas and want to call back SG at local rates. Can just use the dialer? Won't I be charged roaming rates?

Is there a way to determine if the provider you're on supports this?

Thank yo so much, I didn't know this. So if say my relative has the Senior plan, then it will take from their 100 minute IDD, not from the 400 minutes local minutes?

There are no more references to the voice app on simba website, meaning it does not want people to use it anymore. The dialer works just fine. Just remember to put the country code in front of the number you are calling, eg +65 for Singapore.

Simba is great for roaming, but not for sg use. Haha.
Not necessary bad for local, otherwise I wouldn't have changed my primary line from ST to Simba. It's for connectivity rather than cost.

Just yesterday we were ordering food via qr code. My child using simba was complaining very slow, still loading. I use my maxx line and off we go happily ordering food. Haha. Simba is good if not in a hurry.

Time for papa to upgrade and replace that with a better/proper phone. :s13:

Iphone 16 already. Gonna change the line to maxx.
Ya, Maxx still better connection locally if don't mind MVNOS.

But I've not tried roaming with Maxx, to see if it's as smooth/fast as Simba in switching networks without having to do anything.

No harm upgrading to iPhone 17 Pro too.

Any phone also won't help if it's the line's problem. Haha.

I've not tried maxx overseas too. Probably time for me to visit jb again. Haha.

If we are not keen on high speed . Then simba is good for normal usage in Singapore. The plus point is their generous overseas data quota.

If there's barely any connection, there's hardly any speed to talk about. That's my experience before I finally gave up and switched over.

Simba seemed to reinstate back the registration function for Android devices. Those who manage to get hold of the Voice app outside Play Store no harm trying.
