SIMBA data roaming is absolute CRAP.

It didn't work for me in Tokyo last year Nov.

It didn't work for me when I was in Beijing in Sep/Oct this year.

I have been in Beijing since 15 Nov. It worked then. Then suddenly today I got disconnected and can't connect again.

NO changes to any settings.
Manually search and connect ?

Good news! SIMBA has added 3 more roaming destinations (a total of 60) and in-flight roaming allowance to your plan. Excess data is at $4/GB only. T&Cs apply.

what’s the inflight roaming???
roaming while flying in plane

but SIA already offer free WiFi for all passengers anyway

Simba was amazing in like 10 countries I visited including China. It was ICC eSIM that failed me (all networks forbidden).

Download the PDF of the preferred networks and connect to those. I had to do it several times.

nah. different people people use different phones. I have friends and colleagues who visted Japan and China, roamed with Simba and no issues.

Japan always have an issues with roaming on certain phones, as their network uses different bands. So please check if your phone support their roaming partner.

Like some posts above mentioned, even ICC SIM failed in china, so do you blame ICC provider? If you want gurantee support, latest samsung and apple phones is your best bet. Don't bring old old phones for roaming, some old phones just don't support the bands. It could also be simba and it's roaming partner agreement too.

There are too many variables in this. All my friends has no issues roaming in Japan and China. Same goes to Australia, Vietnam and Indonesia. Europe roaming works for me too.

Simba is good, value for money, fast etc, for most of the time or people.

but frustration is when u have problem connecting to network overseas and there's nothing Simba can do. (personally encountered a few times with my 20-40 overseas trips after covid. (Some are visit to bolehland)

My advise is, don't rely on Simba as only overseas simcard. It's good only as a backup or as additional data.

It will be perfect if they can resolve the network issue overseas. 100% of the time, the customer service are only trolling you with standard reply.

Other Telco would have check on your line, reset the line etc.

I agree too, I realised on older phones (2019/2020), the bands, connectivity etc. gets affected and face issues with compatibility, thus, resulting in poor or no connections.
Usage on latest devices that I had was seamless. IMO more of device issues than network issues from my experience.

Agreed that newer phones works.

Last trip to japan on Jan 2023, Samsung A7 intermittent connection, should be 2017 model.

Xiaomi mi note 10 and Redmi note 9T, bought in 2020 and 2021, works perfectly even on temple hill in kyoto

Then again my mum's Redmi note 9T to Taipei in Aug 2023, works fine on low mountain at Wulai and Shiding, used to snatch many shopee 10cents items during 8/8

Yeah, thankfully SIMBA is NOT my primary data roaming usage.

yup. there is still some issues. Agree that we need to have some backup in case. I got small issues while roaming in belgium, certain spots in the city of belgium has weak connection. But that's okay as it's some blind spots. They are using orange as their roaming partner in europe. In fact, if you roam with SIMBA in Europe, many countries are using Orange as their roaming partner, the APN automatically changes to Orange.

Yes. I realised that some people who are facing issues roaming are using older phones. Not sure why, but i heard people in the past when they travel for holiday, they will switch to an older model phone or back up phone.

I not sure why, or is it because scared their latest premium phone gets stolen. By bringing having your latest phone, there will be less issues. Just becareful of your phones la, as usual during travel, be aware of your surroundings.

I scared battery not enough and don't want carry big powerbank while walking, so in Japan initially planned Samsung A7 for Google maps and Xiaomi mi note 10 for taking photos.

As a last try of troubleshooting, suggest you switch off your phone, remove all SIM cards (if Android dual-SIM phones), just insert the Simba SIM card, manual select the network (either China Mobile or China Unicom). If still does not work, then I suppose SIMBA is really not fated for you.

For me, I like SIMBA because of SIMBA Voice App - allows me to receive & call Singapore no. when I'm overseas.

Hmm, when roaming overseas, need to force set APN to TPG too?
Thought it only applies while in SG.

Anyway, experience in Greece was that roaming didn't work with iPhone 13 Pro in Santorini, but works in Athens (but not the airport).

Perhaps good to install apps like Nomad - subscribed to Greece 3GB eSIM plan for USD5 on-the-spot while queuing at immigration via the Athens airport WiFi when we couldn't get SIMBA roaming to work. PM me if u need $3 off code.
