New number has always been immediate since eons ago, porting number is the one with waiting time.

The only delay I've ever encountered is the delivery of the SIM cards. Whether port in or new line, activation has always been prompt. Learned my lesson to either go for eSIM or choose to pick up physical SIM since.

Yup for port in the x factor is whether donor telco got issue or new telco overwhelmed lo lol.

Yea, this is one of the best use case for esim, instant activation when you can't make it to a service centre to get physical sim, or you need to get around service centre operation hours limitation.

I am specifically looking for:

- voice roaming (ability to receive and make calls from/to Singapore) and for incoming text messages while in Thailand
- do the above using an existing Singapore mobile number
- for an extended period of time, with (perhaps irrelevant) frequent trips back to Singapore
- not necessarily a large amount of data roaming in Thailand because I will have access to wifi and possibly a local SIM card in Thailand

The only solution I seem to be able to find is Simba and the use of its voice app. Any reviews of this?

you can get what you want with most service providers.. singtel, m1, starhub...etc.
the cost may be higher.

For low cost roaming the preferred choice would be Simba & Eight. For Thailand specifically, eight might be better if you want more roaming data, while Simba offers more call minutes (& call to mobile numbers are unlimited)

Yes. That is just far too good to pass on.

I also just learnt that one doesn't necessarily have to use the Simba voice app if the foreign (roaming) network supports Volte. In Thailand, Simba's preferred partner with Volte is DTAC, which it turns out is one of the 3 major networks there. Simba it is then!
