Need some advice on my current build. Basically I just overhauled my entire PC and therefore have some spare parts:

Core 2 Quad Q9450
6GB DDR2 RAM
P5Qp PRO Mobo
B85M-G

Now the B85M-G mobo is damaged (bent pins). I am going to hopefully get it fixed this Saturday.

Now, my mother needs a simple PC to do web browsing and maybe some Word editing. Simple stuff. The question is should I use the B85M-G to maybe put an i3 PC together, or use the Core 2 instead?

Another thing. I put the Core 2 PC together and when I pressed the power button nothing happens. After shorting the power pins still nothing. The power LED is on. I am guessing the P5Q is faulty.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Either CPU would be good enough for a web surfing PC, you don't need significant CPU power for web browsing.

What PSU are you using for the C2Q PC? Could be a faulty PSU.

Lol I'm using a very old cooler master 520W

So its possible that its a bad PSU? I kinda suspected it but when I shorted the green and black wires the PSU started up

It may still have problems supplying the correct voltages to the system. Try another PSU.
