SimplyGo and GooglePay

I recently installed both SimplyGo and GooglePay, and have a few questions.

1st time trying out and didn't want to hold up the entire bus while I'm figuring out how to use it. I've added my CC details into SimplyGo, not yet into GooglePay.

When I tried to tap my phone on the bus, my phone opened GooglePay and asked to add my CC details.

- How do I 'activate' the use of SimplyGo instead of GooglePay
- Does it matter? or do both apps have to be linked?
- Can I use solely SimplyGo for public transport and GooglePay for other payments?
- If both SimplyGo & GooglePay are installed, when I tap the phone on buses would it deduct from both apps via NFC?

It works by using Google pay and not simplygo. You can have gpay installed (with 1card linked) to use for transport.

Simply go is only for checking the fares and claims. It doesn't interact with the bus/train.

You need to add your card via SimplyGo and following that proceed to any General Ticketing Machine to change your card's transit mode. Then from there tapping your phone on the reader should work fine.

I see! I'm currently using a normal Passion card with EZ-link function, as opposed to a bank card with EZ-link function, that would be the same procedure at the machine?

Btw after changing the transit mode at the GTM, would the 'tap' cause a deduction from both SimplyGo & GPay?

You need to add your card into Google Pay and make sure contactless payments are enabled on your phone in order for it to work.

You don't need the SimplyGo app for this to work, the SimplyGo app is only used to check your fare history and to submit claims.

Got it. Thanks both, I did check the Help section but it was mainly about adding CC into SimplyGo with no mention of the payment gateways. It did mention double charges occasionally so that worried me about about having CC added to both apps.

Nope it won't. SimplyGo is just a platform to check your transit history using the card. No worries on that front.

I have tried using gpay but I realized that gpay uses a virtual cc number instead of the actual cc number for the transaction as sort of a protection. Then I am unable to check the transit history on simplygo as the transaction is made via the unknown virtual number instead of the real cc number.

Anyone faces this same issue?

GPay uses device specific virtual number, but in your SimplyGo you should register the actual card number. It should still be tracked properly.

I've the same debit/credit card associated with 2 Google Pay and 1 Apple Pay devices and all are being tracked by the SimplyGo app properly. All 3 devices have their unique virtual card number.

Tested Google and/or Apple Pay with cards from DBS, UOB, Citi, StanChart and Revolut, all works the say way in SimplyGo.
SingTel Dash requires you to input the transit card number instead, which is different from the standard ST Dash card number.

Yeap like what lohsenglte mentioned, I have my CC registered on both apps and it shows on SimplyGo. Just checked!

ever since I used google/samsung pay, it helped kept my wallet so slim now. nowadays I just carry 1 cash card and 1 atm. sometimes don't even carry nric coz using Singpass.

Agree. I now even don't bring ATM card. OCBC can use QR code to withdraw cash from ATM.

Errr... the 2 apps do not need each other to work.
One is a e-payment app and the other is for tracking history/register bank card

You tap with Gpay, it "bills" fare to your bank card.
You register your card in SimplyGo and you can check your transit usage.

I'm not referring to the SimplyGo tracking app. But rather the whole system of allowing tapping in and out mrt/bus using credit card in mobile wallet which is branded under SimplyGo.

With SimplyGo, you can use your contactless bank cards% or Mastercard/Visa cards added to the mobile wallet# immediately* for fare payments. You will no longer have to make upfront top-ups or carry a separate travel card, and your train and bus fares will be processed and charged to your bank account or credit/debit card bill directly.

I started off using gpay nfc linked to my bank card for public transport without even registering in simplygo.

After a few months, i had issues getting gantry to detect my gpay nfc but i could pay for other stuff just fine. So i downloaded the simplygo app, registered the same bank card and it has been working ever since.
