anyway we should look at the risk free rate now first

https://secure.sgs.gov.sg/fdanet/SgsBenchmarkIssuePrices.aspx

1 year SGS is at 1%
5 year SGS at 2%
30 year SGS at 3%

from there you can get an idea of how the SSB yields will be, since its a risk free product too

I think it will definitely be better than fixed deposit, and maybe slightly, just very slightly better than SGS

I am waiting for corporate bonds to be sliced up and tradeable on SGX

can get SCI and KC bonds at 4% yields
FCL bonds at 5% yields

Though the details are not clear yet, I would say the SSB may be a bit like the US Treasury's TIPS, but instead of rising prinicpal and fixed coupon rate, it is a fixed prinicpal and rising coupon rate.

Stepping back and thinking aloud, this SSB would have an impact on the local money market. It would very much depend on the actual coupon rate of the SSB, the prevailing SIBOR (i.e. banks would be hard up to attarct cash) and the liquidity (via SGX or only direct with MAS).

Sorry for asking but $50k savings account at ocbc360 can get 3.05% p.a. after fulfilling 3 rules. It has liquidity too.

What's so attractive about bonds unless u have above $100k? (can have 2 ocbc360 accounts with spouse)
