I would think, studying hard is their only option out of poverty. Only by studying hard and gaining knowledge, then possibly they would be able to get a good job and from there, build connections with other successful ppl, learn ways to earn more money e.g. investment etc.
I agree but without a mentor, they also won't know what books to read or how to study, let's take an example, we have a middle income family which provide nutritional food for their kids but not sure how to invest so they just work and continuing the same cycle versus a poor family which everyday complain about government and not having enough money but still goes to buy lottery, food provided is canned food free from welfare

10 years down the road, which family kid do you think will score better in exams and progress further? Right decisions are made because the poor kid has to learn it from someone, I keep wondering how come my peers could study for hours and hours and managed their time better but I just don't have the willpower and health to do so, heck I didn't even know what's calories and how to eat a balanced diet, I thought western set meals is considered balanced since they are called a set meal
