1) Actually the cheaper S$29.90 per month 5Gbps recontract offer is even worse as it only comes with one WiFi 6 router capable of 1Gbps only.

SingTel can probably argue that the ONR has one 10G LAN port for wired device to get the full bandwidth provided by 5Gbps plan.

The main problem is that there is a big gap between HB810 and HB611-SGST. SingTel probably do not want to offer HB810 for the 5Gbps plans due to cost reason or even the cheaper 10Gbps plans.

All in all, SingTel is cutting corners in the bundled wireless router.

2) Starhub has better spread of the router offering.

3Gbps plan: HB410, S$120, 2.5G capable, dual band BE6500.

5Gbps plan: HB710, S$192, 10G capable, triband BE18000

10Gbps plan: mostly EB810v, S$360, 10G capable with extra three 2.5G ports compared to HB710, triband BE22000
Agreed. It's quite strange and will probably open them up to questions by unknowing customers who can never see the 5gbps speed. Thought as a minimum the WAN port should be 5gbps..

That question is.... gone, when a 1Gbps and not a 2.5Gbps Router AP is given (the original arcadyan bundle in this instance, though Im pretty sure many people - incl myself - will disagree with it)

Frankly, they should consider offer a i.e. $30-50 one-time actual tp-link cost price difference opt-in for customer to upgrade to HB810 instead if the price of the plan did not afford them to offer the Starhub deal equivalent of a HB710 (i.e. HB810).

1) I understand where you are coming from, but the S$30 to S$50 top-up is just wishful thinking for now. We do not know the real cost price difference between HB810 and HB611-SGST, but I believe it is more than S$50.

Singtel is selling HB810 with free weekday installation at S$16.80 x 24 = S$403.20.
https://www.singtel.com/personal/products-services/broadband/eform/wifi7

[50% off] 1x TP-Link HB810 BE22000 WiFi 7 Router (worth $799) at $16.80/mth
+ Free Weekday Installation worth $91.68

2) HB810 is kind of similar to Deco BE85 in terms of HW spec and its pricing is probbaly similar to Starhub issued EB810v (EB810v is similar to Archer BE800 in therms of HW spec, it has one more 2.5G ports than HB810, but you can say HB810 has nicer and smaller form factor).

The following calculations are just rough estimation.

Assuming Starhub gets 50% raw profit by selling the router.
Starhub EB810v is at S$360, real cost price is at S$240
Starhub HB710 is at S$192, real cost price is at S$128
Starhub HB401 is at S$120. real cost price is at S$80

Singtel HB810 is at S$403.20, real cost price is similar to Starhub EB810v at S$240.
Singtel HB611-SGST is in between HB410 and HB710, let's just estimate real cost price estimated at mid-way at S$104.

You can see the cost difference is at S$126. And Singtel will for sure want to charge more than just the cost difference.

3) I am not saying Singtel's bundling is right though. I mentioned earlier that Singtel is the worst among the big three in terms of router bundling.

Singtel is really bad in terms of free wireless routers given for the 3Gbps/5Gbps/10Gbps plans, especially the cheaper base plans.

Look at Starhub:
3Gbps plan --> ONT + HB410 (2.5G capable, dual 2.5G ports and dual 1G ports, dual band BE6500)
5Gbps plan --> ONT + HB710 (10G capable, dual 10G ports, triband BE18000)
10Gbps plan --> ONT + mostly EB810v (10G capable, dual 10G Ports, three 2.5G LAN ports, triband BE22000), some plans with HB710.

Look at M1:
3Gbps plan --> TP-Link Archer BE230 (2.5G capable, dual 2.5G ports, three 1G ports, dual band BE3600)
6Gbps plan --> TP-Link Archer BE805 (10G capable, dual 10G ports, four 1G ports, triband BE19000)
10Gbps plan --> Asus ZenWiFi BT10 two-pack (10G capable, dual 10G ports, one 1G port, triband BE18000) or single Archer BE805 [most of the users should get Asus ZenWiFi BT10 two-pack as the resale value is at about S$660 to S$700; Archer BE805 resale value is at about S$270 to S$300]

Now look at Singtel (all with XGS-PON ONR).
3Gbps plan --> Singtel AX5400 or HB611-SGST. Only HB611-SGST (2.5G capable, dual 2.5G ports, dual 1G ports, triband BE110000) is a good match for 3Gbps plan.

5Gbps plan --> Singtel AX5400 or HB611-SGST. HB611-SGST (only 2.5G capable) is not that good match for 5Gbps plan already but anyway still much better for Singtel AX5400.

10Gbps plan --> still HB611-SGST or HB810 (dual 10G ports, dual 2.5G ports, triband BE22000). Only HB810 is a good match for 10Gbps plan. HB611-SGST is really not a good match.

BTW, M1 is selling the following WiFi 7 routers with PWP offer.
Asus ZenWiFi BT10 two-pack at S$21 x 24 = S$504 (very good buy for M1 users)
TP-Link Archer BE805 at S$15 x 24 = S$360 (not very good buy now for M1 users).

TP-Link Archer BE805 is sold in Challenger at S$759 (usual price at S$759).
Carousell BNIB price is now at about S$270 to S$300, dumped mainly by M1 users.

Asus list price of two-pack of Asus ZenWiFi BT10 is at S$1299.
Carousell BNIB price is now at about S$660 to S$700, dumped by M1 users.

These two will be of better value than Singtel issued HB810, especially considering that HB810's powerful CPU is wasted by the Singtel ONR (unless you bridge it).

For Singtel users, I will recommend Archer BE805 if you need Single AP (but some people may not like the size and may want get single unit of BT10). If you need a two-nodes mesh, I will say Asus ZenWiFi BT10 two-pack is better since TP-Link EasyMesh is not as mature as Asus AImesh.

Another option is to get Stahub issued HB710, the price has dropped significantly in Carousell and below the S$192 price from Stathub shop.

I can see listings at S$160 to S$170 now and maybe it will soon drop to S$150. This will be a much better choice than HB611-SGST to use as an AP after Singtel ONR.

Starhub issued EB810v has also dropped to around S$300 range, below the S$360 price from Starhub shop. But probably two x HB710 will be a much better option than single EB810v (or single Archer BE805) for Singtel ONR users.

How far should I factor this when recontracting? My contract ended more than a year ago and the $29.90 bundle is cheap. Are there better options router and price wise? TIA.

If you do not have issues with Singtel, and no issues with ONR (assuming you are already using Singtel ONR, or ONT+Singtel issued router), then I tend to recommend to stick to Singtel.

On the other hand, if you want to leave Singtel, then M1 6Gbps plan at S$34.90 (free TP-Link Archer BE805router) and Starhub S$29.55 per month offer (free HB710 router) are better in terms of value. Take note Starhub digital voice is not free at S$2.14 per month.

Price estimation is based on HB401 --> HB710 . The LED controller and displayed probably added unwanted cost to EB810

Not only that.

EB810v and HB810 use flagship chipset (Qualcomm IPQ957x), they also have SFP+ / 10G RJ45 combo WAN port.

My contract with Singtel is due for renewal in June. I am considering switching to StarHub for their cheaper 3GBps HB410 router at $39.91 compared to Singtel 3GBps BE11000 router at $42.90. Which is better?

Thanks, have no issues with Singtel. Am I right I cannot continue to use the current ONT & router when I recontract?

Starhub 5Gbps offer at S$29.55 per month with HB710 is way better.

Please check the sticky thread on top of this forum section for the link to the offer.

if i were you, i'll consider either StarHub's 5Gbps Plan, or M1's 6Gbps Plan
