Interesting move. Singtel must feel the pressure from Starhub 5Gbps/10Gbps plans.

People will naturely compare the 5Gbps offering vs 10Gbps offerings. So I will list down the 10Gbps offering in the same form as well.

The main issue for power users is the use of ONR (XGS-PON ONR): ZTE F8648P.

5Gbps also using ONR?

Correct, Singtel 5Gbps/10Gbps plans are also using ONR.

That is why I mentioned earlier that the main issue for power users is the use of ONR (XGS-PON ONR): ZTE F8648P.

On the other hand, there are users who do not care too much with ZTE XGS-PON ONR. Some users use DMZ as a work-around. There are also a few reports of being able to bridge the ZTE XGS-PON ONR.

@xiaofan hello shifu, do you remember i once enquired below on the 5gbps from SH?

https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/...our-home-fiber-network.4173602/post-152238814

So with this new 5GBps from Singtel, the similar setup will look below??
tk1363.jpg

With this setup, i no longer need to purchase the separate Nokia beacon for D3 (If using the SH plan) since this comes with the AX5400 router, and Singtel hardware/network is generally superior than SH right?

So, the provided Singtel AX5400 could be the main router (Delivering 1GBps wifi). Will this be a mesh setup that users will see 'one' network to connect to, or two separate routers?

Actually I tend to think Singtel 5Gbps is a bit worse than Starhub 5Gbps.

1) For those who do not like to use ONR, it is reported that Starhub now allows the user to opt for XGS-PON ONT. In that case, the user needs to get their own router. Singtel only offers XGS-PON ONR.

2) For those who do not mind using ONR, Singtel XGS-PON ONR does not have wireless function. Starhub Nokia XS-2426X-A ONR has AX6000 rated wireless function. And I believe Starhub Nokia ONR has better features than Singtel ZTE XGS-PON ONR.

3) Singtel AX5400 router is not a good router. In general, Singtel provided free router is not good (probably with the exception of the HB810 router for the 10Gbps plan, which seems to be decent; the other good one is Asus RT-AX86U for the Singtel 1+1 Gamer bundle). Singtel provided mesh solution is even worse.

Hope Singtel also offer XGS-PON ONT then.

Maybe wishful thinking though...

Existing 1G plan ($35.xx) expiring coming Aug, on a self bridged Huawei ONR. Tempted to go 5G or 10G and go on a yolo journey to bridge the ZTE ONR. 😂

Tbh buay gian this cash grab
Honestly I struggle to see their value add for their fibre plans.

It's not the cheapest in town, they give you ONR with no option of bridging it officially, bad routing to some VPS providers which will probably screw you over if you game, and of course the legendary ping spike from 40ms to 190ms when connected to Google Cloud in HK.

I was thinking to sign up the 5gbps but use asus at8 or linksys mesh setup. Is this compatible and viable? Any advice?

I received a different variation of the 5Gbps contract promo offer cos I'm not signed to SingTel fibre. $49.90 per month ("usual $95.90 per month"). Comes with a Wifi 6 router, enhanced security and apps for work and play.
