Singtel Aztech FG7009GR

Hi guys,

Recently I just upgraded my Singtel Fibre broadband to 1Gbps and they provided me with a new router Singtel Aztech FG7009GR.

So I went to look up the features of this router and it says it supports network drive. I connected my external powered 3.5" hard drive to the router. The router's status light for USB lights up but in the 192.168.1.254 configuration menu, there's no where I set up the network drive. Any advices? :)

I think the USB port on the router is not working from what I've heard.. but i wonder if any one using 7009 can confirm this?

The only thing u can enable is the samba server..

Have you tried to mess around the admin settings? I see a "Storage Service" option there. Not sure whether is it what you are looking for.

off topic, do u guys find this router 7009 wifi range poor for both 2.4 and 5gz.?
So far so good. Maybe my house too small haha

Placing your router at a high and central place is important as it improves signal strength. Also, any obstacles such as wall will degrade your signal.

To have a further signal strength, you could use 2.4Ghz.

We all know 2.4Ghz is congested by many other users thus I recommend you using Android Wifi Analyzer to scan for existing channels that are used by your neighbors. After determining the congested channel(s), you can set your router to use the less congested channel so as to reduce interference.

What a shame, based on this post under the tab "Feature" from Singtel, it says Aztech FG7009GR(AC) does not support USB for file/print sharing: http://techsupport.singnet.com.sg/singtel_device?deviceid=1157

In contrary, Aztech's website states that it does support file and print sharing for those USB port: http://www.aztech.com/index.php/component/jshopping/product/view/118/61

I'm really confused now.

Same product but different SKU.

If the device came from Singtel, it is called 7009 and the firmware is supported and updated by Singtel. And Singtel could have restricted some features of the router.

If you buy it yourself, it is called 7008 and the firmware is supported and updated by Aztech. And user have to download and update the latest firmware themselves.

the router is set to auto by the technician but still bad. My staircase is about 20 ft away from it so, wifi is measured by ookla at only 30-40 mbps, so my 2nd fl definitely goes down to 10 mbps or non. So I tried to use an extender to boost the wifi upstairs but think main issue is the wifi signals from the 7009 are too weak to be picked up compared to my previous modem for the 200 mbps plan (think it is the 7000 aztech). Using my same extender , it could bounce the signals to 2nd and 3 fl. But not now, cannot even reach 2nd floor. I am not sure if other routers like the asus or dlink or netgear are adequate to enhance this 7009. Any help to extend the wifi signals will be appreciated as they refuse to provide the mesh. I think they should either change to a better modem for landed or give the mesh as an extension of their equipment provided inside the plan pricing, or don't sell the 1g plan for landed. I am very disappointed with singtel :(

You might wanna explore asus routers. They have better performance reliability than aztech, and are also compatible with singtel fibre on vlan configuration. Since you have 3 storeys house, the mesh is definitely a better option because it provides a seamless roaming around the house.

Consider the mesh as a form of reliable performance, it's better than ur repeater speed leh..

Guys, I emailed Aztech and the final conclusion is, the USB ports are useless. Below is the reply from Aztech Technical team with regards to my questions.

"Dear ALJH89,

Good day!
The FG7009GR(AC) uses a customized firmware from Singtel, making the USB ports disabled for end-users.

Loading Aztech FG7008GR(AC) Firmware on Singtel FG7009GR(AC)

Aztech FG7008GR(AC) and Singtel FG7009GR(AC) share the same hardware specifications. Aztech FG7008GR(AC)'s firmware can operate on Singtel FG7009GR(AC) device.

Aztech FG7008GR(AC)'s firmware can be obtained from:

ftp://ftp.aztech.com/support/SINGAPORE/ADSL/FG7008GR(AC) Firmware version 322.6s.2-009.zip

ftp://ftp.aztech.com/support/SINGAPORE/ADSL/FG7008GR(AC) Firmware version 322.6s.2-011.zip


Remarks:
- Only Aztech FG7008GR(AC) Firmware version 322.6s.2-009 and version 322.6s.2-011 can be accepted by Singtel FG7009GR(AC)'s firmware.
- After programming Singtel FG7009GR(AC) into Aztech FG7008GR(AC), all versions of Aztech FG7008GR(AC) Firmware can be accepted by the device.
- The device's MAC addresses will not be affected by programming the above firmware.

Hi Guys,

currently i using FG7009GR device. i notice i am unable to login site starting ip with 1.1.1.1 or 1.x.x.x ip range

is there anything i need to input on the router so does it works?
