no matter how good your plan is, if u dun use above the public plan threshold also is a waste because you didnt enjoy handset subsidy that why they can keep u there. else they will kick u off the plan long ago.

True, I only use about 1/10 of the 30 GB per month. but id I were to recontract, I would have to select the COMBO 3 plan which amount to $62. so I need to pay $40 more per month.

So which is cheap: Hand set upgrade Vs stick to the old plan?

just to correct some things that you mentioned:

No free phones also --> there are always free phones, just depend on the phone model and plans.

Example - https://www.singtelshop.com/shop/phones/phone-details.jsf?brandId=156&modelId=ZEFONE2_ZE551ML

I was told no longer got Classic. Next plan is their so-called combo plans. More expensive and no non-data plans ---> all three telcos also no longer offer their old plans for re-contract. so its not something that is isolated to one telco. I held on to my SmartSurf 300 for more than two years before giving it up when I switch to another telco.

True, true. Too angry over ST's ability to ignore long-time customers like me that any phones they offer (even free) seem like they cost money. Opportunity cost... If I now have to change to a more expensive plan and pay extra $8 more per month, this means I am paying extra $192 for 2 year contract. A 'free phone' would cost me this much, I figured.

True also that all other operators doing the same, so if I need to change plan, I will change to a non-ST operator. Just painful to give up my Classic Plan.

out of contract can change plan.
your information dont seem enough to make a comparison

http://home.singtel.com/upload_hub/consumer/supersim_table.html

ione plus rrp is $2x, so you can easily swap to combo 2.
so i dont understand your information.

i guess u are refering to 3gb of data?
so u can use cis rate + 1 gb data more * 24 mth = total cost

work your sums
