Hi fellows, recently I received a mailer regarding this & after jumping through hoops, I finally clarified a few of my pressing queries with a CSO from SingTel; & I hope to share what was made known to me so that other folks with similar questions need not go through the same hassle.
Question #1: Am I essentially re-contracting the moment I accept this rebate?
Answer: yes, & you are actually recontracting for another 2 years; just that you can still exercise your option to purchase a new handset from SingTel at the promotional 21-month pricing any time within this new 2-year contract. On the other hand, you cannot terminate your contract with SingTel, i.e. switch providers,*or downgrade your price plan within these upcoming 2 years. If you insist on breeching the 2-year contract, you will be subjected to pro-rated penalty, i.e. $bill rebate monthly amount * elapsed months for breeching within the first 12 months, & $bill rebate monthly amount **remaining months for breeching within the*last 12 months
This is important, as a CSO from the Bugis HelloShop told me, al beit erroneously, that*the bond is actually only 3 months. Which means I can actually "break my bond" with SingTel after enjoying just 3 months of the rebate if I wish to. This is misinformation.
Question #2: Will the option to purchase a new handset at 21-month promotional pricing, apply to premium smart phones such as the iPhones.
Answer: yup, you can enjoy the 21-month promotional pricing on any handset within the 2-year re-contract; you will just have your upcoming bill rebates terminated. More importantly, I clarified that the purchase of the handset need not occur physically at a HelloShop or via SingTel online; so I can actually purchase the new handset at any authorized SingTel reseller (a.k.a.* those smaller shops in the heartlands/shopping malls). I*felt the need to clarify*this because of 2 points: based on what I observed: most telcos typically try to wring as much premium out of those customers who likes "premium smartphones". A very good example of this is the additional $300 applied on top of the 12-month re-contract pricing if you have purchased an iPhone previously, & is purchasing a new iPhone. Secondly, some of us prefer to purchase at smaller shops because as repeat customers of those shops, we may get slightly better deals, or more leeway with inspecting the handset.
Question #3: If I am on an existing data plan with 12GB of data bundle, will the re-contracting from accepting the bill rebate,*downgrade me to the newer 2-GB data bundle limitation that applies to new customers & the conventional re-contracts?
Answer: No.
However, I failed to clarify if I purchase a new handset after the bill rebate offer is accepted, will SingTel "make use of the opportunity" to try to get me onto the new 2-GB data bundle restriction or not.
This information is accurate as of 1152H,*14 Jan 2013.
Another thing I failed to clarify is the manner in which my contract will be extended suppose I exercise my right to purchase the new handset (at promotional pricing) at any time before the bill rebate's 2-year re-contract is up. Example:
Suppose*my bill rebate re-contract takes effect on 1st Jan 2013 (which means my contract with SingTel lasts till*1st Jan 2015). Suppose I decided to purchase a new handset*on 1st Jan 2014. Will the new contract bond me to SingTel*from 1st Jan 2014 to 1st Jan 2016, or will it ride on the existing contract & I will still be bonded to SingTel till*1st Jan 2015*"only".
The helpful chap answered quite a few of my questions already; so I'm hesitant to trouble him further.
