Wonder how it’s works
So if we are on existing Sim only plan
And we want a IPhone X 256gb and pay $62 per month and when we reach 12month we want to return back and take another iPhone X so what and how much we need to TOP up again and no penalty ?

So we get to upgrade phone yearly no penalty and just pay the monthly fee again after 12yr if we want o take up phone

I think beyond 24 months then no upgrade fees. 12 months and 18-24 months got.

Leasing program looks good upfront, but when you realize that if you lease the iPhone and upgrade 12 months later (especially when near launch), you're better off buying upfront then sell it.

Buy iPhone X 64GB - around $1750.
Sell 1 year later used - around min $1000.
Pay only $750.

The $750 is actually overstatement. iPhone 7 Plus 128GB price till date only drop around $700 despite it alr is 20+ month phone. More likely the iPhone X will drop around $500-600 actually.

Rent iPhone X 64GB - $62/mth X12 + $200 device change = $944.
And that's because price has dropped. If this program was launched when the iPhone X was launched, it would probably be around $65-70/mth instead for 64GB.

You're basically paying $200 more while renting. The feel of a rental handset and own handset can be drastically different for some too.

iphone x 64gb not 1648 meh? when become 1750?

how sure are you the resale value of the iphone x 64gb is min. 1000?

that depends on the condition of the phone. more wear/tear, lower the price.

how sure are you the leasing fee will be around 65/70? all plain speculation.

of cos i agree w u that leasing will be better for phones which are just available, now also lull period what.

think leasing works best for those ultra premium handsets, when its too expensive to fork out one time cost.

yeah i agree the calculation in flawed.

the leasing programme suits some, while not others because of several factors like upfront payment, user's intention to change after 12 months or 24 months, some could even keep changing few months.

The resale value of a handset, be it apple or samsung, is closely tied to point of resale, in addition to the physical condition of the phone.

let this be clear, if singtel mobile leasing is an upfront straight forward advantage for users to acquire a new phone at such a substantial price reduction, then i would fear that market dynamics would have been disturbed. who would want to buy from apple or samsung directly? at this moment, despite street pricing cheaper, there are people who want to buy from samsung and apple directly despite a few hundred dollars cheaper, and they aren't oblivious in it.

I'm assuming the $100 markup when some apple fan would buy at a premium on launch day.

I'm just saying it could be. That's why I never calculate based on 65/70, but 62.

Yeah, but I won't be surprised if SingTel requires the handset to come back in a relative decent state.

The $1k is based on historical iPhone price. Now used is around $1.2-1.3k. $200-300 drop over 4-5 months (iPhone X launch was in Oct/Nov) is too much for iPhone actually.

Isn't the leasing program requires 12 months at the minimum before you can switch handset?

Hi lohsenglte,

We have a cost comparison of getting a handset at RRP and our Mobile Leasing Plan for a period of 12 months and 24 months in the post link below.

Cost comparison

We believe the mobile leasing gives our customers the flexibility to enjoy selected latest phones at a lower monthly fee compared to purchasing the phones.

Leased phone needs to be returned in good working condition. You can refer to our post in the link below for more information on our definition of good working condition:

What does good working condition mean?

The duration of the leasing program is 24 months. However, customer can choose to terminate Singtel Mobile Leasing by returning or purchasing the leased phone. Kindly refer to the screenshot from our FAQ below:

What if the customer loses the phone and unsub with MobileSwop Unlimited? Can they get the same model and capacity to replace the "lease" handset?

Also, must the SIM-Only plan be in the handset registered? Is it ok for other Sim cards (maybe diff line or carrier) to be in without that SIM-Only Sim?

Hi lohsenglte,

If the leased phone is damaged or lost at any point of time during the term of the lease, you will need to pay the remainder of the full purchase price of your leased phone in the absence of MobileSwop Unlimited Add-on coverage.

The SIM Only Plan card need not be inserted in the leased handset. Customer has to maintain the active SIM Only Plan registered with the leased handset.

Could you pls advise the duration of time needed to obtain a replacement phone in this lease, with mobileswop unlimited?

Like, if my phone is spoilt now and I made a request for a replacement, how fast could I get a replacement phone?

Hi renfred89,

The swop/replacement will depend on the date/time of service request. Kindly refer to the screenshot below:

This means that the handset lease is separate from the SIM-Only contract I suppose? Like if you lapse your leasing of the handset, it doesn't affect your SIM-Only contract?

you must have a sim-only plan in order to lease a phone. the lease handset will run on separate contract with the service line. that is what i understand..

i don't understand what point you're driving at, you expect equipment comes with free plan? :D

anyway pls leh, the faq all listed there already and you asking the obvious, you don't look like the sort who don't read faq since you answered m1 queries so impeccably.. :D

Hi lohsenglte,

You can terminate the handset leasing anytime without affecting the SIM Only Plan.

However, if you terminate the SIM Only Plan, it will also terminate the handset leasing.

This is reflected in our FAQ list #11 and #27:

If you cancel your Mobile Line during the term of the Singtel Mobile Lease, you will need to pay the relevant fees. The fees are shown in the screenshot below:

Didn't have much time to read the FAQ and T&C these few days. And I'm just asking for my friend, he's interested in it lol.
