Hi folks,

first time poster.

I have a Singtel ONR (Nokia) which I have various port forwarding set up for VPN etc and it works. However I am having problem with port 32400 (for Plex) which is setup correctly but a scan on the public IP side shows it closed.
does anyone know if Singtel block this port?, I tried asking Singtel but they brushed me off. It’s a bit annoying.
Thanks

Regarding unbridging a bridged ONR, it happened to me last year after I shifted.

ST switched me to a ONR from ONT after I shifted. ONR was bridged upon my request. About 3 months later, I realised I had a doube NAT; my ONR was unbridged.

Called ST to bridge again. Hopefully, it stays this way. Otehrwise, I'm going to hop to another ISP.

Have you tried other port number like 5201 I mentioned in previous reply?

In any case, the best is to move away from SingTel based on the discussion here.

It happened to me too. The engineer came, after some bouncing around, it was bridged when I checked - my router received a public IP. All good, so he left.

Less than an hour later, when I checked, I realised I was behind a Double-NAT. The ONR had somehow received a "default profile" when I shut it down and rebooted it (cos I wanted to re-organise the cabling and make it neater). Had to call them and ask why they unbridged it. Took another return trip days later to settle.

That's when I learnt that all they need is to push out a default profile from the backend - I don't need to do anything, and I don't have to know anything since it'll happen without my knowledge or consent. In fact, I cannot consent to something since it's not my property - it's their's.

That explains for my situation as well. My ONR was unbridged mysteriously despite I didn't do anything to it at all - not that I can do anything to it anyway except on/off the device.

I'm sure ST is going to issue me a new ONR again when I shift to my perm place next year. Reading from the past posts, I have a feeling that ST may not bridge for me again. Will request and see how it goes then.

It will be better to confirm whether they will entertain the bridging request before recontract. If their policy is as rigid as the latest feedbacks, then you'd better move away from Singtel to other ISPs -- either M1 or Starhub can be a good choice.

Hi Toshni123. Singtel does not block any of its ONR ports. The configuration adopted by Singtel is TCP port 32400 which is generally used to access Plex Media Server to access music, pictures and videos stored on one computer, with any other computer or compatible mobile device.

Singtel ONR does not support Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) and NAT Port Mapping Protocol (NAT-PMP) auto-configuration that allows Plex Media Server to automatically configure a forwarded port on the router. However, customers can setup manual port forward to allow remote access to Plex Media Server.

Thanks a lot for this answer. I think it will be good to put this as an FAQ item for Singtel ONR in the following URL as port forwarding will be a popular feature request from the ONR users.
https://www.singtel.com/personal/support/broadband/routers-ont
Other than port forwarding, I think the other commonly asked question about Singtel ONR is why it does not allow the user to set up custom DNS servers.

Viewquest is also using ONR for some of the plans (eg: Viewquest 2Gbps plan which does not allow bridging as well), but they at least allow more configuration option of the ONR, not as dumb-down as Singtel ONR.

If Singtel policy is that Singtel will no longer allow bridging of the ONR for normal 1Gbps plan, then it will at least be good to allow some basic configuration like the DNS server.

Just stumbled on this thread as my ONT just went up lorry all the sudden. The PON light stays red even after swapping of fiber cable and all. Looks like after getting an ONT swap out, i won't be able to get back my bridged configuration. Guess time to jump ship after contract is up

Using Singtel ONT or ONR? For ONT users you will get the ONT as a replacement. So there is no issue here. For Singtel ONR users, you can still try to ask them to keep the bridging status, if the request got rejectected then you can always switch to other ISP.

How to differentiate an ONT or ONR?

Please note that the newer version of the ZTE ONT is labelled Optical Network Router. However, this is not an ONR. This is an ONT.

Resurrecting this thread as I’m still behind the Singtel unbridged ONR and was wondering if anyone had any luck with Plex port mapping on a double NAT scenario as I’m out of ideas.

Thanks for the suggestion. I’ve got zerotier downloaded and working but it buffers like crazy trying to stream anything more than a couple of mbs.
don’t some researching but can’t figure out what the problem is. Got my NAS on Zerotier network and iPhone on 4g at other end and they see each other but playing a movie from Plex is stop start.
many suggestions?
Thanks

What is your NAS? Is it possible that your NAS CPU is too weak to run Plex and Zerotier at the same time?

Reference I got pretty good speed using Zerotier in prior test (around 300Mbps). I was using an OpenWRT VM to run zerotier, the host PC is running PVE on a low power Intel J4105 CPU.

My NAS is 1019+ so got plenty of grunt to run both applications. Maybe because I’m behind a doubt NAT which doesn’t help. I have a Synology RT2600ac as the main router with all my devices on a 10.0.4.xx net and this is into the Singtel ONR on 192.168.1.x net.
I did want to use Zerotier with my Apple TV which is at my workplace overseas but doing some reading suggests that it cant be run on Zerotier so maybe back to square one trying to run Plex remotely in direct stream with a double NAT….sigh

Take note that video transcoding is pretty resource intensive especially when your source is 4k, but the video you watching on your mobile is 1080/720. Furthermore your NAS running a 3000 series Celeron (correct me if I am wrong) and I am not sure if the PLEX version (paid) you using support HW transcoding, if not, it will run on your CPU. Recommend to check the system resource of your NAS when you try to stream the video from externally (outside).

*This is taking into the fact that you have configured your Zerotier correctly.

Thanks.
The reason why I am trying to run Zerotier at high speed is my NAS is not doing any transcoding as I have it switched off. I have don’t have any bandwidth or monthly utilization issues to worry about so I don’t need to transcode thereby taking the strain off the NAS CPU.

Currently my devices on the remote side of Zerotier are Apple TV, IPad, iPhone. The biggest consumer will be Apple TV if I can get it to work through my remote router configured for zerotier. At the moment I’m just doing testing over Singtel 4G network which gives me Speedtest 225mbps download and 60mbps upload which will be fine for 4K.
however when I try stream over 4g with Plex it’s buffering on a direct steam with a 720p file at 5bmps
So this is what I’m trying to solve.
thanks
