I currently have a singtel postpaid plan which has 12 more months to go before the contract ends. I'm going overseas for a few months, anyone can advise if I am able to put the plan on hold while i'm overseas?

yes you can do that, contract period will be ON HOLD for the period of time and RESUME when you come back.

means if you go 1month, and your contract end date will end +the duration you stop their service.
