I have 2 Singtel TV set Top box at home, one connected to my living room and the other in my room.

The one in my living room is not dvr and can watch Singtel tv channels with no issue, however the one connected to my room with dvr has issues. It always hang, auto restart, making my scheduled recordings unable to record and even if it successfully records, it hang when watching.

This issue only happens on Monday night. For the day Singtel technician come to install until Monday no issue.

Is this a set top box issue or broadband issue?

Go and check physically if the STB (Set top box) is too hot or warm.
And is there enough ventilation around the STB that prevent heat to dissipate.

Heat issue is one of the reason which may cause STB to act abnormally every now and then.

Ensure there is enough space for the STB and it is best not to put anything on top & around to block the ventilation flow.

Try to power off to let the STB to cool down reasonably before power on.

Still the same

It is new, and only used for 3 weeks.
The past 3 weeks got no issue, out of sudden got issue since Monday.

Can the recordings be transferred to the new set top box?

In this way then you may have to get the STB replace.

Is the STB looks brand new or used.

Not familiar with Singtel STB.

If the recording HDD is inside the STB then it may not be able to unless they physically do it for you when you do the replacement.

Did you leave the STB on 24/7 and in standby mode when not watching.

Btw how do you know it is brand new as is there any plastic wrapped around the STB.

Wrapped in plastic and there is box
I off and in standby mode. I never off main switch.

Need to off main switch? If I off then cannot record.

When you mentioned "I even off for 1-2 hours completely"

Do you mean to power off the main switch to completely shut down the STB and to let it cool down reasonably by touching physically on the STB.

Try to do it again to completely shutdown & power off and remove the power adapter from the power source of the STB for a couple of hours.

If it still happen again then most likely the STB is faulty which may required to be replaced.

Wrapped in plastic do not mean to be brand new, sometime.
The only thing is to physically check on the STB on any sign of dust or scratch including the bottom or look not totally new.
Usually refurbished devices are also re-wrapped nicely but there would have sign of being used before.
This apply to any new products you get as any sign of brand new or already opened package before.

For normal usage there is no need to turn off the main switch connect to the power supply source.
Either turn off via remote control or on STB itself to standby mode, as it would not affect recording function.

Ya before I left for work today I off at 7am
After work tonight I on, hopefully no issue.

I have schedule recordings during weekdays and I cannot afford to have my set top box spoil

Just monitor for the time being and should not any issue.

Also for most brand new product there would be necessary to update the firmware &or software in order to have better performance and stability.

Why there is a need to power off completely and then power on the STB is to initiate to update any latest firmware update to the STB.
This may usually happen once a long while as in months or when the product is brand new.

For example, a couple months ago when i totally power off and later power on, the STB go into updating mode to update firmware before able to start using.

If still persist I Guess I need to call Singtel tonight.

Starhub Fibre STB and it is a brand new when recontract & upgrade 2 years ago.

Late last year when i power off and then power on the STB, it went into updating mode.
Not sure why & how but notice the firmware has a date which is a couple month ago after updated.
As not sure why it did not push the updating while using until i have to restart.
This is the 2nd or 3rd updates since having this STB as brand new.

Maybe you could check on the STB settings on current firmware version & date.
And ask Singtel on the latest firmware version & date for your STB model.
So that your STB is up-to-date on firmware.

Updating to latest firmware is one method to resolve any problem with devices.
Beside the other is heat issue for cases on issue such as yours.

Note/edit.
For connection issue on STB it will have signal problem and/or some other minor resolution or pixel images quality, due to poor connection.
Yours would be likely to be STB issue on restart &or stability problem.

Go change the box. These new boxes break down very easily nowadays. I changed my grey stb to the black one, then it spoilt a few mths later, changed again to another. Now waiting for it to spoil.

The grey STB was much better, can last really long but started to lag when Singtel updated the user interface.

If a third party is doing exchange on behalf, need a copy of account holder's NRIC and a simple letter of authorisation. Can be handwritten.

Eg. I (name/NRIC) authorise (name/NRIC) to exchange the singtel set top box under iptv no. (can be found in the bill), on my behalf

About 1 month ago, I changed my set top box to a recordable DVR one too. A few hours after switching it on, the screen froze and I have to switch it off for a few hours before switching it back on again. It will work fine for about 30mins and the screen will freeze again. Called Singtel and their technician came for a 1-1 exchange. And yet the problem is still not resolved up till today.

I finally decided to call Singtel again and this coming Tues, the technician is coming again. And I'm pretty sure the problem will still be there.

To those who are using the old set top box (non-DVR) version, try not to change it to the DVR one. Singtel sales department will entice you to change. Just say no.

Honestly, such set top box can be faulty easily, not just Singtel TV. Such issue can be quite common.

I had the same issue .... but after changing to another channel, and back to the channel which froze earlier on, the channel can be viewed per normal ..... after 5 mins, the channel freezes again.

But after swopping to another box, the issue disappear, so, it was a DVR box issue ... suspect some batches of the DVR box had issues, since it's refurbished ... maybe ask them to bring 2 spare ones . ..
