the service and software still buggy. But some book price definately cheaper than amazon. Also alot cheaper than paperback.

I tried the free books, downloaded as .epub, and can be opened in iphone ibook app without problem. better than their app.

Hi, do you mean you first download the ebooks using the skoob app, then read using ibook app?

A good start! I just bought free and paid books. Free books are unprotected and can be read anywhere including Kindles and Nooks. Paid books are Digital Edition based, DRMed so probably the Nook can read them. The book selection is smaller than what Amazon and B&N provides... 'Steve Jobs' isn't there yet.

It's a good start, but these ebooks can only be read on bright screens and not on dedicated e-ink ebook readers, like kindle. Unless e-ink devices are supported, I don't think I'm going to buy any.

Nook and Kobos may be able to read the drmed books. Kindles cannot.

yea so e-ink reader still partially supported then, wondering why he would say "Unless e-ink devices are supported, I don't think I'm going to buy any."

Kindle is actually the odd one out when it comes to drm ebooks. Most of the other e-ink devices do support adobe drm that is used by skoob.

Ya. but I only tried with the free book, which seems to be non drm protected.
I can download as .epub, then sync back to iphone, and open using ibook

How does the drm work? can the .epub file be synced with iphone and opened using ibook apps also?

This looks quite promising at first glance... will definitely buy a book to show support for the first ebook website in SG :)

Now if they could also sell the new Sony eReader to complement the ebooks, this will be perfect!

The conspiracy side of me is wondering if singtel's ebook store 'skoob' is the reason why ebookstores like Amazon found it hard to get into Singapore. Various reasons were bandied about on why we were never, and still continue to not be, listed in the accepted list of countries for Amazon and other ebook dealers. One was that there were issues with copyright with local publishers and distributors. If singtel obtained permission to set up skoob, it might well mean that they are trying to obtain a monopoly first, and try to obstruct other ebookstores from reaching our shores...

Skoob is incidentally the name of a famous 2nd hand book shop in UK, and also the name of a bookshop in Malaysia.

But most of all, its a blatant ripoff of kobo!! Even the logo looks similar! Wth.

On a side note, has anyone tried qoo? The times ebookstore that sponsors this forum.

i dun mind if they set up a ebookstore in sg, but their selection is like sooo small ,if later close down , will blame sg'ers for been pirates or something.

if true , its even worse for us, if they obstruct amazon or other big ebook stores from offering here.
