SIT OR SIMGE????

Hi all ive recently gotten my A level results and it does not look very good.. and i need some help in choosing university.. i got CEE/B.. (would they accept me)??

I'm currently lost in choosing which school to go.. What i have in mind are SIT and SIMGE both on Information Technology (courses related to cyber security).

1) Bachelor of Engineering with Honours in Information and Communications Technology (Information Security) by SIT.
2) Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Information Systems and Management by SIMGE-UOL.
3) Bachelor of Computer Science (Digital Systems Security) by SIMGE-UOW.

I understand that SIT is considered as a Local Uni (Right??) while SIMGE provides as DL degree which may or may not be so reconsigned in Singapore. However these overseas university exists longer than SIT..
Hence i'm currently in a dilemma on choosing which school..

Should i go with the local university or go with the more recognized university by the world???

Both SIT and SIMGE are not universities. Both of them are institutions for distance learning. UniSIM, SMU, NTU, NUS are local universities.

If you don't know don't anyhow give info lei.

Ntu,nus,smu,sutd and sit are autonomous uni. Unisim is not one of the autonomous uni however some government sector does regonize their cert.

Your a lvl results look very bad. What grade did you get for your math?
It might be tough for you to even get into SIT.
But aside from your A levels, do you have other stuff to show? SIT assess their applicants holistically.

Do take note that the degree from SIMGE-UOW is a basic degree, no honours classification. You may be at a slight disadvantage after graduation.

SIT is one of the 5 autonomous uni in singapore. These singapore universities usually have signed agreements with industry players and offer better connections with relevant local companies. Many external activities and competitions are usually open to only full-timers of all 6 singapore uni (includes UniSIM).

SIT ICT isn't distance learning though. It's endorsed by SIT itself.

Your maths grade is going to be a very huge hurdle even if you DO get into any of not all of the following courses that you listed. Based on my understanding of computer science courses, they assume that you already have some GOOD ground in A math/A-level math AND programming language. There is just not enough time in a traditional 3 year course to teach any of these basics from scratch.

Is it possible in the meantime while you wait for the outcome to your application to do something about your maths and programming. Computer science is not easy at all. And i don't imagine the other 2 to be that much easier when all of them are built on the understanding that students have some theoretical grounding in something...logical like maths.

Can you go back and redo your ten year series or whatever they call it now for your A-level maths? You don't want to wait until you're in the programme to realise even your best grade at C is not enough to carry you past some of the pre-requisite classes in Year 1. Forget about the re-taking. Just concentrate on understanding it well. If you wait until you start class, be ready for a very rude shock where nobody actually really cares how well or badly you're doing. They just boot you out after what 2 tries. No use saying how you screwed up or why you screwed up by then. And yes, learn as many programming languages as you can and learn them well.

Your O levels will not help much for your application, as you are not a poly applicant.
I suggest you focus on boosting other aspects for your application.

Dont give wrong info to TS. If want troll, go to other sub forums. Btw, currently there are 6 local unis and they are NUS, NTU, SMU, SUTD, SIT, SUSS. And for SIMGE they are private institutions which offers distance learning programmes.

Of course, with the exception of accountancy, hospitality business and a couple of other courses that are locally conferred degrees issued by SIT.

So why is it wrong to say that SIT provides distance learning as well? No hate, just curious.

SIT established by MOE since 2009 but they only gained AU status on 28 March 2014.
I remembered back in 2013, without the SIT Act passed in parliament, SIT cannot confer and award its own degrees.
All they have was some distance learning degrees in collaboration with some foreign universities held within the five polytechnics campuses. Back then, some of their buildings in places like NYP or RP are not even built yet. Just wanted to paint a more realistic picture of SIT before they gained AU status.

SIM, not SUSS was established back in 1964 by EDB. Subsequently invited by MOE to run Open University Degree Programme, changed a few names. Then got asked by MOE to set up UniSIM in 2005 for working adults. Then SIM itself also want to do business by forming SIM-Global Education to host distance learning degrees. Basically like a surrogate mother of MOE but all along been kept private. Say history, who is the oldest? But say status, that's the power of an act in parliament to make SIT 'more recognised'. LOL. And now MOE wants to take back its child, UniSIM and change its name to SUSS. Pass an act in parliament and make it an AU. Better picture now?

It is partly true that SIT does conduct distance learning programs. However, after becoming an AU, most of the new programs introduced are either conferred by SIT or a joint-degree conferred along with partner uni.

Some of the programs offered before becoming an AU were restructured to reflect this, for example, all of the health science programs are now conferred by SIT or joint degrees.

With regards to admission competitiveness, as with all programs, if demand > supply, it will definitely be harder to get in. This is especially true for most health science related programs, namely social work program conducted by SUSS and allied health programs conducted by SIT. With the government pushing students to take up the role in the healthcare sector, there are bound to be more applicants in such courses.
