SIT or UniSIM or SIMGE

Anyone can advice me which University to go to?
SIT, UnSIM or SIMGE??

As I know that I won't be able to apply the top 4 University (NUS, NTU, SMU or SUTD) due to my normal result in Poly. Unless miracle <<GPA of 2.9>>

Currently graduated in Poly as an IT (Information Technology) student this year (2013). These are the 3 courses that I am interested in SIT or UnSiM, they are:

1) BSc (Hons) Computing Science - University of Glasgow << Study at RP (SIT) >>

2) BSc Information and Communication Technology - UniSIM

3) BSc Facilities and Events Management -UniSIM

So far, if I am not wrong, SIT or UniSIM going to be 5th or 6th public university in Singapore so I just wanna to know which of these uni is suitable for me as a poly graduate student. I also noticed that when I watched in youtube that the first batch of SIT graduating students celebrating their graduation day was amazing which can be compete with other public uni in sg. The degree cert was really nice to hold on to which has a black cover with golden SIT logo on it Hope to see you guys reply soon

FYI if u take a degree from SIT now, the degree will still be considered as DL. Yes, SIT will be a uni but not now. After they start to confer their own degrees, it will be under different entity - SIT University? or whatever they call it. It's similar to SIM - DL degrees under SIM and local degrees under UniSIM.

SIT is the fifth public uni. Arranged by order of the time they were declared a public university :

3rd: SMU
4th: SUTD
5th: SIT
6th: UniSIM (although not widely publicized. LHL did mention this last National Day Rally. And UniSim students get the same subsidy as local uni students now. hence, its a public university, but more for working adults)

Do not confuse UniSIM with SIMGE. I would choose SIT if I were you.

HR justify my salary as compare to NUS, NTU, SMU or
SUTD. For example, NUS or NTU got average salary of $3,150 for starting pay.

As for SIT or UniSIM, the average salary around the range
of $2,600 to $2,800 for starting pay unless Need more hard
Work and good performance to be in the same level as top
University? I mean as an IT graduates?

To me as long as got $2,500 as starting pay as an UNi
Student, I already quite happy with my job.

I do not see why HR must pay NTU/NUS/SMU a different salary compare to SIT/SUTD/UniSIM/DL Degree unless your degree is not recognize as a degree or you are in a different level/grade of position.

The salary range for fresh graduate is between $2,500 to $2,800. Anything more then that mean you are lucky. Anything less then don't accept it case the employer are giving you wage pressure.

1) My CO used to be a specialist but work hard to study a degree & cross over to officer. Now he is a LTC (^^")

Depends if you want part time or full time. I think SIT is full time for now?

All about branding ...unisim sim been around longer than sit/sutd but somehow it is not brand as the 4th local uni but sit and sutd got it instead.

Also studying full time has good and bad. Employers may think full time uni will be better as you spend more time studying while part time only go lecture and listen, do assignment and then forget everything. So studying full time you will miss out and valuable job experience and income for 3-4years while a unisim study will have acquired years of working experience (to not be considered a fresh grad) while still having income and a degree.

Depends on luck, your pay may be same as a unisim grad unless nus/ntu/smu and even must see company.

Comparison:
Full time (higher fees?)
No working experience gain(attachment not counted)
No income

part time
Lower fees (not sure)
3 years working experience while getting degree at the same time
Income (assume a diploma job @ 2k(exclude 13th month, company bonus,yearly increment(performance increment) it will mean 72k lost income in 3 years)

Having said that, if you can secure a 3k starting pay job after full time degree then you can catch up with part timers in the long run...so really everything is see luck also.

To be honest, the reason I will still choose SIT or UniSIM is because the reason are:

1) Firstly, because LHL announced that it will be the 5th or 6th UNi so government already give us hint that these 2 schools can be compete with the top UNi in sg.

2) last time people use to say Republic Poly don't consider as a poly to most of the people because it is more easy to pass as no exam. Now you can see where RP stand now. Last year some more awarded the 3rd ranking poly. I believe SIT or UNiSIM can follow Republic Poly as a role model school even SIT is still new like what RP was in the past.

3) SIT might sound like DL to most people so not so recommended as every country also prefer to value their own public UNi degree coz own degree represent pride to the country so I guess own degree will have more privilege. That is why SIT will be having own degree soon. For UniSIM, I also prefer because it got a great history of recruiting students who still got hope as hardworking students even through they are not that elites. UniSIM give hardworking ITE and poly students some hope to be talented

Ans: Before I start this answer to your question, I might be wrong but the main reason is because:

For all the admission requirements from all 6 university (NUS, NTU, SMU, SUTD, SIT or even UniSIM). All 6 Uni allows ex-students from all 6 university to apply for each other courses. Another meaning will be because all 6 University standards are around equal level, maybe NUS or NTU standards still a level higher. Kyoji83, you can go every of the 6 University website and see the admission. Ya I know NUS ranked 25th and NTU ranked 46th for world university ranking in year 2012. SMU, SUTD or even SIT or UniSiM can't even check its ranking in this website:

I believe that as long as Sg government recognised these 6 university is recommended, I still think that these universities standard is there to compete with one another. I know i might be wrong. Once we step into working world, starting salary will determine that these degree is about the same as the range around 2,500 to 2,800 as you or someone mentioned early on in my post.

So what does Big 3 Uni Stand for if we want to apply for this position?

For this answer, big 3 uni will always be the top university. I always heard my parents ever told me about the most realistic things in life when I was in primary school. They told me that doctor, lawyer and accountancy earn the most and have the most power. Doctor sent company a letter about the person's having weak health can determine his/her end career. Lawyer can sent letter to fine someone's money if someone got any criminal record. Accountant can control wealth if i not wrong. Usually medicine school and law studies held in NUS which represent sg the main reputation. In SMU, most popular and well known business course like Accounting can represent Sg. Lastly, NTU is specialised in Engineering like are Aerospace and so on to make sg proud. Kyoji83, only top 3 uni got courses like Law, medicine, Business and Engineering to have some world class standard as compare to other Uni. I am sure most elites prefer top 3 university as there are courses that have good reputation and good salaries to be consider in their career path.

I mentioned about SIT or UniSiM can compete with the top university is to compare those normal course like IT, Design, Multimedia and so on. For what I know so far, Sg will always favour the top 3 (NUS, NTU, SMU) University in terms of education. That is why lawyer, accountant and junior doctor starting pay is higher than normal uni graduates pay.

It was a survey based on 'popularity' votes which makes it pretty much redundant. Anyway, a good way to tell whether a Poly is better than the other is to find out how many of its graduates have a place in local uni. I doubt RP has the advantage over the other polys with their COPs since local unis place a 20% weightage on O levels for their computation of UAS.
